JASON’S POVI hated every moment of the formal genetic testing process, understanding intellectually the political necessity while simultaneously chafing against the sheer indignity of having to legally prove something I already knew, with absolute certainty, to be true.“This shouldn’t be necessary,” I said, watching the medical technician carefully collect samples from each of our four children, my jaw tight with barely controlled frustration despite my understanding of the legal requirement. “We already have documentation establishing the hotel night, the timeline, everything relevant to their legitimate parentage.”“I understand your frustration, Alpha,” our legal counsel said carefully, observing the collection process alongside us. “But Cross has structured this challenge specifically to require scientific verification regardless of documentary evidence. Complying fully and transparently actually serves our interests best, providing incontrovertible proof that definitively ends

JASON’S POVI sat alone in my study for a long while after Ella left, processing the genuine self-disgust building steadily as I replayed that brief, devastating flicker of doubt she’d caught crossing my expression.I hated myself for it. Genuinely, completely, understanding with painful clarity exactly how much that momentary uncertainty had cost her, resurrecting fears and old wounds she’d worked so desperately hard to heal throughout our difficult, complicated relationship.I didn’t actually doubt her. I understood that with absolute, rational certainty, understanding the fabricated report’s obvious impossibility, understanding everything we’d already independently verified about our children’s legitimate parentage through documented, reliable evidence rather than Cross’s calculated manipulation. And yet.I sat with the uncomfortable, difficult truth that some small, unwelcome fragment of uncertainty had genuinely surfaced, however briefly, however quickly I’d worked to suppress an

JASON’S POVThe confrontation happened at a territorial coalition summit I hadn’t expected Cross to attend directly, given his careful pattern of operating through intermediaries and elaborate concealment throughout this entire exhausting campaign.I spotted him across the crowded assembly hall, considerably more composed and confident than I’d anticipated given our legal team’s recent success discrediting his fabricated genetic report, and felt every protective, furious instinct in my body surge forward at finally confronting the man responsible for so much accumulated danger and suffering throughout these past several months.“Alpha Silvermoon,” he said, his voice carrying an easy, unbothered confidence as I approached him directly, several of my own security personnel positioned discreetly nearby though I’d insisted on this particular confrontation happening personally rather than through intermediaries. “I wondered when we might finally speak face to face, given everything that’s

JASON’S POVI found Ella that evening in the nursery, watching over our four children with the same quiet, fierce devotion that had characterized every moment of her care since their birth, and felt the accumulated tension of these past several difficult days settle into something considerably softer at simply observing her in this peaceful, private moment.“They’re finally all asleep,” she said softly, glancing up as I entered, a tired but genuine smile touching her expression. “Even our smallest fighter managed a full feeding tonight without any complications.”“That’s wonderful,” I said, settling beside her, watching our children’s peaceful, steady breathing with the same overwhelming love that struck me every time I properly observed them. “How are you feeling? Beyond simply the exhaustion of managing four newborns during all of this chaos.”She was quiet for a moment, considering the question with obvious care. “Better, I think. I’ve been processing everything that happened, that

JASON’S POVI felt Ella’s hand tighten around mine as Cross’s legal team continued distributing documentation throughout the assembled crowd, understanding the same mounting tension currently gripping us both despite our determined effort to project confident, unified composure.“We should approach the podium ourselves,” I said quietly, watching the coalition’s presiding council member glance toward us with obvious uncertainty about how to manage this unexpected, unscheduled development. “Rather than simply waiting anxiously for whatever he’s planning to say, we position ourselves prepared to respond immediately.”Ella nodded, her own composure carrying the same fierce, determined confidence I’d witnessed her demonstrate throughout every previous crisis this exhausting campaign had thrown at us, and we made our way together toward the central assembly area, several coalition leaders parting respectfully to allow our passage despite the evident tension permeating the entire gathering.
