ALEXAVIAN’S POV "Should you remain undecided on the appropriate gift, perhaps you might entrust Lady Lorraine to my care instead. ” Casimir mused.A spark of irritation stirred within me.I had never intended to grace this ridiculous charade of a ball with my presence. But, the witch had managed to plunge herself into chaos on her very first day in the Pack territory.“What do you mean, entrust?” Lorraine snapped from behind my shoulder, her head peeking out past my back, her eyes narrowed. “Am I some sort of property to you people?”Casimir simply winked at her, entirely unfazed by her bite. "Beauty is meant to be appreciated. He would rather look at his books than you.”“Right. Because between the nerd and the traitor who just tried to have us assassinated on the highway, I definitely prefer the nerd,” she retorted.Casimir’s sarcastic gaze shifted from the witch to me, his smile taking on a sharper edge. “And what if your protector is actually a much greater threat to you than I c

LORRAINE’S POVTaking a deep breath, I forced the brightest smile I could conjure onto my face. “I’d like to see this curse you claim I participated in.”We were nothing more than two strangers using each other, and I never expected his trust. Yet, the disbelief in his eyes cut deeper than it should have.“You need not involve yourself further,” Alexavian replied, his expression turning away from me. Turning to Jules, he ordered, "Escort Miss Silvius back to her chambers. She is not to leave without my permission."“You can’t do that,” I protested, stepping forward and catching his arm just as he made a move to brush past me. “I’m not your prisoner, Alexavian. That was never part of our deal.”“That was until you broke it,” he said, his fingers wrapping around my hand to peel it off his sleeve. But I tightened my grip, holding him firmly in place. “This land has known no witch presence for centuries. Yet this curse manifests only after your arrival."“I don’t know why it's there,” my

LORRAINE’S POV The throbbing ache in my muscles hit me like a violent wave the second I regained vconsciousness. Even twitching my fingers felt like a chore. The last thing I remembered was pouring blood mixture over the counter-array, watching the statues shatter and then…total darkness. I wasn’t actually dying… was I? My eyes flew open as the door creaked, bringing Jules into view carrying a tray. A weird sense of déjà vu washed over me. Except this time, I didn’t wake up to discover my fiance’s betrayal and I had given my blood willingly. “Miss, you are awake!” Dropping the tray onto bed bench, he rushed to my side. Just then, a secondary door, one that clearly connected to a bathroom, swung open. Alexavian strolled out wearing nothing but a black bathrobe, casually wiping his damp hair with a towel. “My lord, she is awake,” Jules announced. Alexavian immediately paused, dropping the towel around his neck as he walked over to the edge of the mattress. He reached out, his

LORRAINE’S POV The sight of Casimir struggling on the marble floor with Alexavian looming over him greeted me as I pushed the heavy doors open.I had intended to remain inside Alexavian's chambers, but Duke had been scratching at the door, itching to get outside, and I had simply followed him.My brows drew together as I saw Casimir’s shattered fingers pinned beneath Alexavian's boot. Beads of sweat lined Casimir's forehead, yet his gaze remained fixed on Alexavian, completely unyielding.“What happened?” I asked, stepping further into the hall to get a clearer view. “Let go of his hand first and talk this out.”My pulse slowed as Alexavian's eyes turned to me. They were cold, entirely devoid of emotion.“I had no idea your bond with him had grown so deep that your heart aches on his behalf,” Alexavian said, his tone dropping into a whisper.I rolled my eyes. “Anyone seeing this would say the same thing.”I tried to process why Alexavian was reacting that way. Even when Casimir

ALEXAVIAN’S POV I dragged her limp body onto the riverbank, her pale form resting motionless against the wet grass.“Lorraine,” I called out, shaking her shoulder gently, but she remained entirely unyielding. My gaze flicked down. Somehow, her dress had been torn away by the water. Stripping off my own shirt, I slid her arms through the sleeves, wrapping the damp fabric securely around her.Dipping my head, I pressed my lips to hers, forcing air into her lungs. She coughed violently, freezing river water spilling over her lips as her chest heaved.“Lorraine.”Her eyes fluttered open, locking onto mine for a fleeting second before heavy exhaustion forced them closed again.Lifting her securely into my arms, I moved away from the shore, leaning her gently against the trunk of a tree.“Lorraine,” I called out again, patting her cheek lightly. She stirred, breaking into another violent fit of coughing as her senses slowly returned. Beside me, Duke nuzzled against my forearm, le
