Tessy’s POV“What planet am I on?” Sophie says as soon as I tell her everything that happened last night at the party. I waited until this morning because she was completely knocked out last night, and I didn’t want to wake her up. “You are now Ryder King’s official puck bunny,” she adds, and I just nod hopelessly. “I need a drink,” she says, walking past me to grab a can of energy drink from the fridge.“I didn’t mean for this to happen. It just did, and I went along with it. But the good thing is he said Tristan will actually be interested in me now,” I say.“Not just Tristan—the entire school! Do you have any idea how big Ryder is? Even top celebrities worship him,” she says.He can’t be all that great.“I don’t care about any of that. If it helps me get Tristan, I’m down for anything,” I say. “It’s almost time for lectures, are you coming?”“Yeah, give me a second,” she says, stepping back into her room.My phone buzzes with a notification. It’s a text from Ryder: Good morning, my

Tessy’s POVWhy isn’t he answering? I mean, he’s the one who texted me to come over. I have something really important to do tomorrow, so getting this tutoring session out of the way tonight would actually be a huge help.“Ryder?” I call out, knocking on the apartment door again.“Tessy.”Tristan’s deep, smooth voice comes from down the hall, causing my heart to instantly skip a beat. I spin around to face him, my pulse fluttering.“You’re here this late?” he asks, stepping toward the doorway.“I’m here to tutor Ryder,” I say, trying my absolute best to keep my tone cool and collected.“Your boyfriend.”“Oh no, Ryder isn’t my—” I cut myself off just in time, swallowing hard. “Yeah... my boyfriend,” I correct, forcing a sweet, fake smile onto my face. “He isn’t answering the door.”“He’s probably in the shower,” Tristan says, shrugging slightly. “Have you eaten? I just made food. Come eat before you start your session.”I nod immediately and follow right behind him, my cheeks flushing

Ryder’s POV“Do I really have to be here?” I ask, keeping my tone completely nonchalant as I stare at the fancy menu in front of me.“Yes. You are my son, and it’s only right that you get to know the woman I’m dating,” my dad says, taking a sip of his water.I roll my eyes. “You’ve dated a ton of people, so what makes this one any different?” I ask, doing my absolute best not to sound as utterly annoyed as I feel right now.“Just behave the moment she gets here, okay?” he warns, leaning in slightly.“I’ll try.”“You know, I’ve always wanted to have a happy family with you. Ever since your mom died, I—”“She wasn't just my mom, she was your wife,” I interrupt, sharp annoyance lacing every word. “We don’t need to force a 'happy family' by having you bring random women into this. We would’ve been better off just the two of us, but you clearly can’t handle remaining single for more than five minutes.”My dad's jaw tightens. “Now, that isn’t fair, Ryder. You can’t be selfish about this. I—

Tessy’s POVI shove against his chest, breaking away from the kiss as a hard frown settles on my face.“What the hell are you doing?!” I snap, pure annoyance lacing my tone.“What do you mean?” Ryder asks smoothly, raising an eyebrow like I’m the crazy one. “I’m kissing my girlfriend.”“You know this is all pretend, right? We aren’t actually dating!” I say, irritation practically burning through my veins.“I know that, but the rest of the school doesn’t,” he reasoning easily, taking a casual step closer. “How else do you think I’m going to make this convincing enough? My girlfriend came to my game, I got excited, and I kissed her. I don’t see what the problem is.”I open my mouth to completely tear into him—until my gaze shifts past his shoulder.Tristan is standing a few yards away. He looks at me with a mix of utter disappointment and hurt before turning around and walking away into the crowd. My stomach drops into a bottomless pit.“Are you sure you’re actually trying to help me wi

Ryder’s POVThis was working out perfectly—her mother seeing us together.“What are you two doing here?” her mother asked, curiosity and suspicion laced in her voice.I opened my mouth to answer, but Tessy jumped in before I could utter a single word.“Mom! We... we ran into each other near the entrance, so we decided to eat together,” Tessy blurted out, offering a tight, awkward smile. Her mother’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Tessy, you came to a restaurant this fancy all on your own?”She asked the question like eating at a high-end place was some sort of taboo for her daughter.“Yes, Mom,” Tessy said smoothly, crossing her arms. “I’ve been working extra hard lately, so I thought I’d treat myself. Besides, seeing as I’m going to be the stepdaughter of a billionaire soon, I should probably get used to it, right?”Before I could say anything, my dad walked up to the table.“Ryder! I didn’t know you were going to be here tonight,” he said, looking surprised.“Neither did I,” her mother ch
