Chapter 11: Don’t burn down my chamber

Kaelen's expression shifted immediately, his brows furrowing. "Now?" "Yes, Your Highness. His messenger said it's urgent. “I’m guessing the occurrence of today has reached his ears.” I watched the exchange from my position on the floor, Ruby still nestled comfortably on my head. The tiny dragon had made herself quite at home, and I can’t complain, as her warm body radiating a gentle heat was surprisingly pleasant. "Fine." Kaelen sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. "Tell him I'll be there shortly." Kelvin nodded and disappeared as quickly as he had come. Kaelen turned to me, his gaze traveling from my now glowing feathers to little Ruby snuggling on my head. "You're coming with me?” "To see the king? Like this?" I gestured to my entire owl-dragon situation. "I look like a Christmas decoration that got attacked by a glitter factory." "First of all, I don't know what a Christmas is. An owl slang? Second, you look exactly like what you are, an owl who somehow tamed the Cal

Chapter 12: Black magic 1

I blinked. The second vase looked almost identical to the first. Same colors, same patterns, designs, same size and all."Quickly," the servant urged. "Swap it and let's go."Together they carefully lifted the original vase and replaced it with the duplicate."There," the first servant said, stepping back to admire their work. "Now let's get out of here before—"The door burst open and I sighed a breath of relief. Both servants spun around, their faces pale with fear. But it wasn't Kaelen. It was a palace guard, his expression stern."What are you two doing in His Highness's chambers?" he demanded. The servants exchanged a panicked look."We—we were just cleaning, sir!" the first one stammered."Cleaning? With no cleaning supplies?""I—""Guards!" the palace guard shouted. "Intruders are in the prince's chambers!"The servants bolted, not taking the other vase with them. They didn't get very far though as within seconds, a squad of guards had flooded into the room, grabbing the fleein

Chapter 13: Black magic 2

Prince Kealen’s povI stormed through the palace corridors, my boots striking the marble floor with enough force to crack the stone. Or at least, that's what it felt like. The guards I passed quickly averted their eyes, stepping aside to press themselves against the walls which was smart of them as I was in no mood for pleasantries.“You will go to the vampire lands as my representative."My father's words echoed in my mind, each word feelings like a barbed arrow sinking deeper into my chest."It is an honor, Kaelen. A chance to prove yourself worthy of the crown."An honor. As if I was born yesterday and couldn't see through his thinly veiled scheme.I rounded the corner toward my private chambers, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. The vampire clans had been our enemies for centuries. Their hatred for us, the royal wolves ran deep, older than our kingdoms, older than the very blood that flowed through our veins and made us shifters. And now my father wants to send me, his pow

Chapter 14: Black magic 3; Transfer the curse

Prince Kealen's PovThe healer's words hung in the air like a death sentence, and I felt the ground shift beneath my feet. The golden glow from his palm faded as he withdrew his hand from Amelia and Ruby, his expression grave."A choice?" My voice came out hoarse, barely recognizable as my own. "What kind of choice?"He straightened his robes and met my gaze with those ancient blue eyes that must have seen more than most men should."The curse that has been inflicted upon them, your highness" he began, his voice tingling with pity, "is not a simple hex. It is a parasitic magic, one that feeds on the life force of its host. It was designed to be slow, agonizing, and ultimately fatal. Whoever cast this spell wanted to make sure they suffered."My jaw tightened. "Can you tell who it is?.""I cannot confirm that, Your Highness," he said carefully, though the implication hung in the air between us. "But the signature of the magic... it carries the taint of our own bloodline."I had suspecte

Were they trying to fool God or what?

Amelia’s povThe first thing I heard was a soft voice, so soft that for several seconds, I wasn't even sure it was real."Amelia."I frowned, twitching my closed eyelids. There was something deeply wrong with me.I tried to open my eyes but it feels like my eyelids are glued together. What the heck must have happened to me?I tried again to pry them open again but it’s still stuck."Amelia."There it was again.A gentle voice, almost like someone speaking from the other side of a thick wall and not wanting others to hear."Amelia, can you hear me?"I wanted to answer.Unfortunately, my mouth appeared to have resigned from its position.I couldn't move.Couldn't feel.Couldn't even tell whether I was lying down or floating."Where am I?" I finally managed to think. The moment the thought formed, I felt my mind get clearerI blinked and immediately regretted it.“What the heck? Vivi, is this some joke?”Heck no, I’m not floating like some circus balloon right?I looked down, Or at least,

I’m a bad mother

Amelia pov“…I can't. Your soul is already stuck here and your body has already decomposed there. And with this curse, your soul will disappear here in a bit.” The system chimed I looked down at my transparent body."...I’ll die soon? That's why I'm turning transparent?"‘Maybe for the dying case but the other? Pffft. Emergency separation of consciousness from physical vessels makes your body a bit glassy and transparent.’I frowned."That sounds suspiciously like something you should have mentioned before doing it."‘Host was unconscious.’"That is not an excuse to not tell me what you were going to do with my body and soul."‘Host was going to die even faster if your soul was left there any longer.’I opened my mouth and slowly closed it."Okay, that's a pretty good excuse."The blue screen flickered.‘Host's physical body is currently undergoing magical destabilization.’My smile disappeared."Damn, am not escaping death, am I? I need a straight ass answer.”‘The curse has severe

It’s a miracle

Prince Kaelen's POVI had been pacing for what felt like an forever. Aldric had just finished preparing whatever stuff he would be needing, arranging his vials and herbs in a circle around the bed. I blink a tear away as my gaze met with Amelia and Ruby laying motionless. The sight of seeing them that way was making feel a kind of pain in my chest, as each shallow breath they took is a reminder of how close they were to slipping away entirely."Your Highness," Aldric called my attention, his voice a bit hoarse. "I need you to lie down beside them. The transfer will work best if you are in physical contact with both of them."I nodded and dragged myself toward the bed, my legs feeling strangely numb beneath me. This was the right choice. It had to be. Amelia looks like an ordinary owl but she feels special in ways I can’t describe. She had saved my life, and now again, paying the price for my dumb brother’s treachery.I so much want to punch his stupid face but this first.I climbed on

Chapter 18; I’m going to kill him

She blinked, seeming to come back to herself. "Oh, nothing. Just..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "I'll explain everything later. But first, please can we talk? Privately?"I had been so focused on Amelia that I had almost forgotten the guards stationed outside my door. I rose from the bed and walked to the door, opening it just a crack."Leave us," I commanded the guards. "No one is to disturb me until I call for you."They bowed and departed, their footsteps fading down the corridor.I closed the door and turned back to Amelia, who had managed to perch herself on the edge of the bed. Ruby was still curled beside her, still clearly exhausted, but alive and whole."Okay," I said, sitting across from her on the bed. "What happened? And be specific. I need to know everything."Amelia took a deep breath, her feathers fluffing out slightly. "Alright. So, after you left to see the king, Ruby and I were just hanging out. And we may have jumped on your bed a little bit.""Hmmm? Little?

Chapter 19: loving you is a curse

Prince Kealen's pov!“Eliza? Is that really you?”They broke apart immediately, both scrambling for cover. Eliza's face was flushed, her hair disheveled and her eyes wide with shock. Theron looked furious, his body tensing as he reached for a robe."Kaelen!" he snarled. "What the hell do you think you're doing?"I couldn't speak. I couldn't breathe. All I could do was stare at Eliza, she really had been with him. She really rejected me for him."Kaelen," Eliza said, her voice trembling. "What are you doing here?""What am I doing here?" I finally managed, my voice barely above a whisper. "Is that really what you should be asking me, Eliza? So this is it? You were for real when you said you hated me… gosh I can’t believe my eyes. You must have hated me so much, is that not why you are celebrating with my dear brother after trying to curse me? You must feel happy to think of me dying soon uh?”Theron laughed, "stop trying to be funny, little brother? Why would I need to add more curses

Chapter 20: Banished

Amelia's POVI snuggled closer to the small familiar warmth pressed against my side, rising and falling with each tiny breath. Even in my half-asleep state, I recognized the gentle rhythm of Ruby’s breathing.I blink my eyes dazedly but stood up abruptly, noticing that I was surrounded by golden bars."A CAGE?!" I shrieked, my eyes flying open. "I'M IN A CAGE!"The cage was enormous compared to my tiny body as it was more like a miniature room than a cage. There were little wooden perches, a small bowl of water, another bowl filled with what appeared to be fresh berries and seeds, and even a tiny section that had been arranged like a nest.Someone had gone completely overboard but still, a cage is a cage— a prison and I ain’t no prisoner to be in here.I scrambled upright, my wings flapping frantically, nearly launching Ruby off the bed.Ruby let out a disgruntled chirp, blinking sleepily at me with those enormous golden eyes. She looked thoroughly unimpressed with my sudden panic att
