~ ZARIUS'S POV:I had conquered warzones, slaughtered rogues, and expanded our borders without a second thought without a flinch. Yet standing here, watching her crumble, something deep within my chest rumbled. An uninvited burn that left me breathless. What should I do?“I HATE YOU—”Before her knees could hit the cold, damp earth, my arms extended as I caught her mid-fall, pulling her into my chest. The impact shuddered through us both.I slammed her against me and we both hit the ground.“Enough, Evelise!”The command came from my throat in a raw, breathless tone.I wrapped my arm around her waist in an iron grip, my free hand pressing into her back to pull her into a tight, inescapable embrace.“I heard you the first time…” I whispered, swallowing hard.My forehead resting against her temple as my chest heaved against hers.“No, you didn’t… You didn’t…” Her voice was broken, trembling against my collarbone. She raised a weak fist, striking my chest. The hit was powerlessly fai

~ ZARIUS'S POV:I believe I have made my point clear enough now. It should be enough to make her listen, I think.“Because I am not letting you go. Not now, or ever.”After announcing her fate was completely sealed with mine, I pulled back to wear my shoes.Once again, the moment I was away–without realizing how impossibly close I was to her–she released her breaths.I sat down and began to wear my shoe as she began to bite onto her nails anxiously once again.I let out a loud sigh.“Why were you barefoot?” She asked, still biting onto the lips. Her eyes were on my feet. The black nails were disturbing her.Why wouldn’t they? They look ugly after all.“You expect me to sleep with my shoes on?” I gave an empty smirk.“You were actually sleeping?” “I just said I couldn’t.” I looked up, raising my brows. “Your room has just one chair. How do you expect me to sleep in that?”“Right… The bed’s too small after all.” She taunted, leaning against the wall, impatiently tapping her foot. “Ju

~ EVELISE'S POV:My Dearest Evelise,I don't know if you will ever read this. And if you do, I don't know whether you will finish it or will be able to read past my name.Perhaps you will tear it, you will hate me, yell in the empty air. You have every right to.But before you decide what I deserve, I need you to hear me once.I am sorry, I am deeply, wholeheartedly sorry for the betrayal. You trusted me.You loved me.And I repaid that trust by handing you over to the very monster I promised I would protect you from. There is no excuse for that.*A tear slipped down my cheek, clutching the paper tighter in my hands as my chest burned. I thought I wouldn't feel anything but every word on the paper pierced right through my heart. It revived the day I lost it all.Sniffling to not break, I tried to read further.*But, I am certain you know this too. The killings had to stop. Packs were being destroyed, innocent people were dying, and I believed giving you to Zarius was the only way

“Zarius! Open this door right now!” I yelled, my fists hitting the immovable door until my knuckles throbbed. “You can't just keep me trapped in here!”“ZARIUS!” Silence answered me. Not a single footstep, not a breath. He definitely locked and forgot about me. “I swear to the Moon, Zarius, turn around and unlock this!” I kicked the lower panel with my bare foot, instantly wincing at the pain. “Ow. ow. Ow.”Jumping back, I held my foot, losing my balance and instantly falling on the carpet with a loud thud.“You absolute coward!” I cried out. That one was not directed to him but myself. I blew at my toe, whining on the carpet and refused to get up.‘Furious screaming won't break the door, you know,’ my wolf chimed in, her tone entirely unbothered.“Shut up,” I snapped internally.‘I told you reading that letter was a bad idea. I told you trying to jump was a worse idea. Did you listen? No.’“I wasn’t actually going to jump!” I threw my hands up in the quiet room. “How was I sup

~ ZARIUS'S POV:During lunchtime, the only moment where Evelise would be busy devouring both hers and my dessert. I took the chance to indulge in some freedom because having her over my head exhausted me more than it pissed her off.As I was seated on a cliff, Mateo's approaching footsteps ruined my peace.“She is making a mockery of you, Alpha.”He stood by the edge of the cliff, staring at the horizon with me.He seemed more offended than I was, his eyes burning with irritation, disliking the idea of his Luna creating a spectacle.Or maybe we weren’t used to it.I didn’t look up from the report in front of me. “She’s keeping herself occupied.”“Occupied?” Mateo let out a harsh laugh. “She just sent the head cook to you to resolve a dispute over soup rations.”“Yes.”“She refused to sign three territorial permits.”“I know.” I hummed. “I signed them.” He whined, hating where this was leading. “The elders are whispering, Alpha. Do something about it.”“Let them whisper,” I replied
