Lucy POV I woke up the next morning with a heavy fever. The nights after Adrian left my room had settled into something I refused to name. I tried to act strong. I tried to convince myself the bruises on my arms and the ache in my body were the only things he left in me. But that was a lie I could not keep even from my own wolf. My wolf craved him again. She craved that moment, strangely. Those few awkward, forgettable moments that left me empty. I hated how my skin still remembered his dominant touch. Lucy POV Adrian stepped out wearing only a pair of dark sleep pants that hung low on his hips. His hair was damp, the long cut on his arm freshly bandaged, the rest of his upper body naked. Fresh scratches marked his ribs and one shoulder, marks from claws, not blades. He did not look at me. He did not speak. He walked past the bed as if it were not there and dropped onto the wide couch against the far wall. He laid there. I lay still and counted the minutes. Ten. Twenty. Thirty. Forty-five. Almost a full hour passed and he never moved. No command for me to come closer. Nothing. It was as if I had been glued in place, not knowing what to do. “How dare you touch me?” he snapped, his voice cutting through the silence and dragging me out of my frozen state. The words sliced through the tension. Immediately I scrambled off the couch, almost tripping over my own feet. My heart hammered against my ribs so hard I struggled to form words. “I… I was only checking your wound,” I stammered, my voice small and shaky. “You were sleeping on the couch. I didn’t want you to get stiff… body pain…” He sat up slowly, every movement deliberate and cold. The blanket slid down his bare chest as the bandages around his side were still in place, yet his gaze never left my face. “You like my attention that much?” he said, his voice empty of feeling. “That’s why you came close while I was sleeping. Lucy POV Shivers ran down my spine. I had never seen Adrian cry before. The boy who always looked at me as though my existence offended him was sitting on the floor with tears running down his face, holding his mother’s photograph like it was the only thing he had left of her. For a moment, I didn’t know what to do. I should have walked away, this was a private moment, and I knew I wasn’t supposed to be in that room. Lucy POV Fury burned inside me. The kind of fury that made my hands tremble and my breath come out short and hot that I did not stop walking, heading yo one destination in mind. Reaching there, I did not knock. I shoved the gigantic door of Alpha’s study open so hard it slammed against the wall. My eyes found where sat behind his desk, calm as ever, with a glass of dark liquor in one hand. He looked up coldly, obviously wasn’t expecting me but there was no surprise in his eyes as he creased his brows, wondering what had brought me. “Why?” The word tore out of me. “Why so cruel? Why do you treat her like that?” He set the glass down without a sound, as if processing my words. “My real father would never treat my mother that way,” I said, my voice breaking as tears began to gather my eyes. “You’re a wicked alpha. A cruel, heartless alpha. I hate you. I hate you so much I can barely stand to look at you.” I kept going. The words spilled out of me like poison I had held too long.
