HARDIN's POV.I carried Leah in my arms, laying her gently across the old couch that sat beneath the window. Her eyes were closed but she still heaved in slow, uneven breaths.This was usually the first stage after a bite. I wondered how long she'd be unconscious for, how long until she turned and how long until my nightmare manifested into reality.I sat right next to her, clenching my hands beneath my chin. I felt the flood in the back of my eyes."How is she?" I already scented Veronica by the door before she even said anything and I threw a look over my shoulder. "She's still the same. I want to be right here when it happens." I replied, reaching to brush the loose strand of hair from her face."I don't want her to be in so much pain. I don't want her to be like this." A tear finally escaped, running down my cheek. My eyes fell on Leah again, my heart hurt seeing her this way. Veronica inched closer before kneeling beside her and she gently turned Leah's chin to examine the bite.

LEAH's POV.The day after, I walked back into school and figured it was easier to pretend everything was normal. Even though I had been bitten by Blake, for some reason I still hadn't shifted. I was only desperate to put everything behind me and go back to my normal, boring life now that the whole thing with Hardin was over. Luckily, we didn't need a huge breakup announcement, the whole school seemed to have moved past it after a month which was exactly our plan. With the spring finals coming up and the semester break ahead, the much-anticipated Ashwood Wolves semi-final hockey match against the Evergreen Eagles, everyone had their own things to look forward to.
