RAVEN“Good morning," I replied shyly, not expecting Lyall to have company, and the man smiled politely."I'm Louis, Lyall's friend. Lyall had to leave early this morning due to a family emergency, and he wanted me to notify you and ensure you returned to campus safely."An empty void opened in my chest so fast it almost stole my breath. I had woken up looking forward to seeing him—nervous, yes, but eager in a way I couldn’t even explain. Now he was gone without even saying goodbye.I forced myself to maintain a neutral facial expression.“Oh. Okay. I hope everything… works out.”I didn’t even know what to say, and Louis motioned toward the coffee table where the signed football sat, the black marker still fresh across the white leather.“He signed that for you before he left.”I stepped closer and carefully picked it up.“Thank him for me,” I said quietly. “Please.”“I will. He also asked me to get you an Uber. What’s the address?”I gave it to him and in the next breath tried to mak

LYALL Before I could react, Sable's face lit up. “You’re home,” she said, already pulling her top over her head. She entered the shower without hesitation, water soaking her hair as she reached for me. “I missed you.”Her mouth met mine, and I kissed her back, hands resting on her waist as she pressed closer, trying to focus on the familiar: her scent, the shape of her body, the way she always arched when I touched her. I told myself this was exactly what I needed. But it wasn't working.Even as I lifted Sable against the tile and wrapped her legs around me, my mind kept wandering, and I saw green eyes instead of brown. I thrust harder, trying to drive the thoughts away, focusing on the heat of her body and the sounds she made. She clung to me, whispering my name, and I responded the same way I always did.But every time I closed my eyes, I saw Raven. Sable was still dripping as I carried her from the shower to our bed, and she laughed against my neck, eager and open, as I buried my

RAVENLouis saw the pause the moment he mentioned Lyall's wife.“Is there a problem?” he asked carefully.“No,” I said quickly, still staring at the small card in my hand. “I just… I suppose I need to thank her too.”He gave a short nod, as if that settled it, and guided me back toward the private elevator. On the ground floor, the building manager was already waiting. She was polished and warm in the way people who worked with the extremely wealthy always seemed to be. After glancing through the paperwork Louis handed her, she smiled at me like I already belonged here.“Welcome to The Marc, Miss Chesterfield.” She held out a small bouquet of white flowers and a heavy, foil-stamped folder embossed with the words “Welcome Home. We’re very glad to have you.”I took both items with slightly trembling hands, the entire thing still feeling surreal. Even the flowers smelled clean and expensive. We went back upstairs so I could finish looking through the penthouse one more time, with the man

RAVENI had no idea how long I sat on the edge of the bed, Phoebe's ugly words echoing in my head until they felt as if they had soaked into the walls. But a text came through on my phone, finally ripping me out of the haze, and I grabbed it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw a banking notification pop up on the screen, and my eyes widened as I quickly scrolled to it. The first stipend had landed.I hadn’t expected it this month. I thought maybe next month, after all the paperwork had settled. I had exactly five hundred dollars in the account—money I’d scraped together and guarded for months. Now a string of extra zeros sat beside that number like they belonged to someone else.Ten thousand dollars. I stared until the digits blurred.I wanted to scream. I wanted to jump up and show someone, anyone. But the second the impulse rose, another thought followed hard behind it: who could I show without it turning ugly?Teagan might be happy for me, but the apartment was full of people who h

RAVENI lost my mind.I fixed my hair quickly with trembling fingers and wiped my face again, already contemplating a sprint to the bathroom to freshen up. But then I realized I might not have the time if Lyall was already coming up.A soft chime echoed through the penthouse at the same moment a pop-up appeared on my phone. I clicked it, and a crystal-clear video feed filled the screen. It was the concierge standing politely outside my door, holding something. The feeling of being in an entirely different world washed over me again, and I rushed to the door, where I spent a few clumsy seconds figuring out the handle and the sensor. It was my first time opening the damn door, and on top of that, I was a nervous wreck, but eventually, I finally got it right. The concierge smiled and held out a large package along with a fresh bouquet. I accepted both, signed the tablet he offered, and thanked him. The moment the door closed, I carried everything to the kitchen island, my heart still ham
