Jolene's POVAfter what happened last night, Isaac and I didn't get off the headlines. Everyone was talking about us.A chuckle escaped my lips. I totally expected this. For the past few weeks, the media had been looking for something juicy. They had been trying to snoop into my personal life just so they could find something to share, and fortunately for them, I had finally given them something good enough to keep them busy for a while.Isaac and I walking into the gala hand in hand had definitely done the trick. I had seen several headlines already. The Beaumont heiress and the famous artist. Is Jolene Beaumont and Isaac Graham a thing? And for those who are more business-minded, the question was: Is Beaumont Group considering a partnership with Ham’s Archive? Honestly, I couldn't care less. I could have gone with Vincent, but that was too easy, plus I was trying to give Vincent some space.Man had been all over me ever since I returned, so I thought it would be nice if I gave him

Jolene’s POV“What’s burning?” I heard Vincent’s voice as he approached the kitchen.I stood in front of the sink where Roseline, one of the helpers, had basically dumped the pot of roasted sauce.Vincent finally got to the kitchen, his eyes going from Roseline to me and then to the pot.“What happened here?”I scratched the back of my head.“Well,” I started, my cheeks flushed with embarrassment. “Breakfast got burnt.”“I promise I stepped out for just a moment, and by the time I returned, it was already smoking. Thankfully, Roseline got here early enough before it could start a fire.”He looked up from the pot and back at me.“Let me guess. You decided to review a little document, and this happened.”I rolled my eyes at him.“I knew you were going to say that, but I’m glad to burst your bubbles. This had nothing to do with work. I was just checking out the place Lily had suggested for our hair appointment today.”“Really?” He said, a bit of disbelief in his tone.I nodded.“Why book

Isaac's POVI wanted to move, but my body refused to cooperate.Tell me this is a dream. The pace of my heartbeat increased, and I could almost hear my heart beating in my ears. When she pulled away, her eyes met mine. For a moment, I thought I saw something in them.Well, the illusion shattered the moment she said, “Sorry about that. Someone was watching, and I just couldn't think of any other natural thing to do.”Those words weren't supposed to hurt me in any way, but I couldn't stop that piercing feeling deep down in my chest.I finally moved, returning to the driver's seat and tucking in my seatbelt as well.I pulled out of the parking lot and then into the main road, but still, I couldn't get that moment out of my head.I wanted to believe that I had seen something like longing in her eyes, even if it was just for a split second, but I knew there was nothing at all there. She already made it clear. And I had willingly agreed to her terms. My eyes remained focused on the road, an

Brian’s POVThe sound of gunshots echoed through the shooting range as I stood beside Jimmy, watching him take his next shot.I didn’t even bother reaching for my own gun.My mind was somewhere else.I had been staring at the same target for the past few minutes, but I couldn’t even remember what I had been thinking about before the thoughts of Sophia started creeping back into my head.I finally let out a sigh.“I think Sophia is cheating on me.” The words came out so casually, maybe they were meant to remain in my head, but I can’t believe I actually said them out loud.Jimmy slowly lowered his gun and turned to look at me like he had not heard me well, or maybe he was expecting me to say it again.“I don’t know for sure and that’s what bothers me the most.”Jimmy remained silent.I stared at the target in front of me. “At first, I didn’t think much of the signs because things haven’t exactly been great between us for a while now.”I paused.“Sophia and I haven’t been living like a

Jolene’s POVFor a moment, I thought I had seen wrong.I almost cleaned my eyes before looking once again. Margaret stood in front of me with a smile across her face.Who knew Brian’s mom was capable of smiling? For a moment, I had convinced myself that I was going to ignore her and maybe walk up to someone else like I hadn’t seen her, but she was already standing right in front of me and trying to engage me in a conversation.“It’s really good to see you again.” She said, still maintaining that fake smile of hers.Anyone who doesn’t know her would probably think she was just one obsessed fan, but I knew better than to fall for her snakish smile. Her hand lightly brushed mine as she shyly asked. “Do you mind if we go somewhere less noisy and, you know, talk briefly?”I tried, but I just couldn’t hide the disgust on my face.Never did I ever think that there would be a day when Brian’s mom would stand in front of me and act nice. Because the Margaret I knew doesn’t even care if we were
