CHAPTER 30: THE GAME OF FEELINGS“Some games are decided by the final buzzer. Others begin long before the opening whistle.”Seven days passed in what felt like the blink of an eye. No one realized how quickly time had slipped away, perhaps because every day had been consumed by training, recovery, film sessions, and preparing both mentally and physically for the season ahead.Friday marked their final practice.Coach Sarah dismissed the team earlier than usual, reminding everyone that the weekend was for recovery. No unnecessary workouts. No late nights. No injuries.Because on Monday…The real battle would finally begin.MONDAYUAAP WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENING WEEKSAN DIEGO UNIVERSITY VS. CHAPTER 32: THE FEELINGS ARE SLOWLY GETTING STRONGER"Sometimes, love doesn't arrive with grand confessions. Sometimes... it quietly becomes the place your heart keeps looking for."The hallway outside the locker rooms buzzed with electric energy.Players from different universities exchanged firm handshakes, clapped each other on the back, and stopped for quick post-game soundbites with members of the sports media. Laughter echoed from every corner, bouncing off the concrete walls. It was Opening Week. Every collegiate athlete had just officially taken their first high-stakes step into a brand-new season.Inside the SDU men's locker room, however, the atmosphere was a chaotic storm of celebration and ruthless teasing."Libre!"Aaron shouted at the top of his lungs, hurling his damp practice towel straight at Kenji’s face."Tumigil ka nga," Kenji laughed, swatting the towel away and pushing Aaron backward.Justin immediately jumped into the fray, a wide grin splitting his face. CHAPTER 34: There's Always Someone"There's always someone out there willing to do everything for you.The saddest part is... sometimes, you're too busy looking elsewhere to notice."Time always moved differently for student-athletes on ordinary days, one hour inside the classroom felt endless. But during the season days disappeared before anyone even realized they were gone. The victory from Opening Week was already behind them. The livestream, the fan edits, the teasing, the headlines.Everything that had filled their phones just yesterday slowly faded as reality returned.Because in the UAAP nobody cared what happened in the last game. The only thing that mattered was the next one.WEDNESDAYAudrae woke up a little past eight in the morning. After taking a quick shower, she tied her still-damp hair into a loose ponytail before heading downstairs. The familiar aroma of breakfast greeted her but something immediately felt...Different.She looked around the dining area.Empty.No Coach Ca

CHAPTER 36: The Things We Don't See"Sometimes, the people carrying the brightest smiles are also the ones hiding the heaviest truths."FRIDAYThe hospital hallway was unusually quiet.Only the rhythmic beeping of heart monitors and the soft footsteps of nurses echoed through the fourth floor.Outside one of the private rooms stood Coach Catherine Zamora.A paper cup of coffee rested in her hands, now long gone cold. She barely noticed, her eyes remained fixed on the woman sleeping peacefully behind the glass window.Mama Beth. For the first time in years...Coach Cath looked less like the strict head coach of San Diego University. She looked like a daughter.Afraid, tired and quietly praying. The hospital room door opened behind her Vince stepped out, gently closing it so as not to wake Mama Beth.He glanced at the wall clock.6:08 A.M."You should leave."Coach Cath didn't answer, she continued staring through the glass."I don't want to."Her voice was barely above a whisper.Vince l

CHAPTER 38: THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE"The cruelest injuries aren't always the ones that break your body... sometimes they're the ones that steal the life you've always dreamed of."Wednesday morning arrived far more quietly than anyone expected. For the first time in weeks, there was no game to prepare for. No scouting report waiting inside the locker room, no pressure of defending an undefeated record.Only one word echoed throughout San Diego University that morning: Recovery.Recovery for sore muscles. Recovery for exhausted minds. Recovery for athletes who had spent months surviving on adrenaline, discipline, and determination.Yet despite the scheduled rest day, the entire campus still carried the energy of yesterday's victories. The Lady Blue Eagles and the Blue Eagles had both officially secured their spots in the UAAP Final Four—marking the first time in years that SDU would be represented in both championship races.Students wearing blue jerseys filled the pathways.
