AVIONNA’S POV I didn’t think I would second guess my decision, but here I was, panting and catching my breath. The sun overhead was harsh, its heat shimmering above the pavement but it had an even more exhausting effect on my body. Sweat had gathered across my hairline, causing the strands that had slipped through the ponytail I’d swept my hair into to stick to my face. My clothes were damp too, and clung to my body with unforgiving tightness. However, despite the sweltering heat, I was glad I stepped out.
