Lahat ng Kabanata ng Reborn After Rejection: I Chose the Alpha Everyone Feared: Kabanata 191 - Kabanata 200

Saevren stayed one more day. He said it was to confirm when the first authorized passage could be tested without colliding with Cedar Draw’s ordinary traffic.Hallie believed him.She also knew the compact was no longer the only reason he had not left.By midmorning she was outside with Caleb near the southern approach, checking whether the path Grant had chosen would stay clear if shelter traffic increased. Saevren came because Everen would use the route. The work should have been dull. Mostly, it was.Caleb stopped where the path narrowed. “If two groups arrive together, somebody waits here.”Hallie looked at the ground and then at the brush twenty yards back. “Too exposed here. Too easy to hide there.”“So where?”She stepped back to the wider stretch and pointed. “Here. Visible from the watch point, far enough from the shelter approach that nobody mistakes one group for the other.”Caleb considered it. “That works.”Relief replaced the irritation that had risen while she studied t

Grant waited until Hallie left with Caleb before speaking. Saevren was folding Everen’s copy of the compact into the leather case he had brought with him.“You understood her answer.”Saevren looked up. “She told me no. I understood it.”Grant had considered several ways to begin this conversation. Most of them sounded like a challenge, and he had no interest in turning Hallie into the subject of one. Jealousy was already making enough noise inside him without giving it the authority to set the terms.“I already know you still want her,” he said.Saevren’s mouth curved faintly. “That saves time.”“It should.”The smile faded when Grant did not return it.“What does wanting her change?”“The compact does not change.”“Her marriage?”“Valid. Chosen. Real.”The quick answer loosened so

Hallie found Saevren alone with the compact before dinner. He had already packed most of the papers he would take back to Everen. Only one copy remained open on the table. Hallie stopped across from him.“Do you love me?”Saevren looked up. No surprise. That annoyed her.“You expected that question?”“Eventually.”Hallie folded her arms.“And?”“And no.”The answer landed so cleanly that she almost laughed. After weeks of people turning every intense thing into a permanent claim, Saevren had answered without decorating it.“You want me. You’re attracted to me. You asked whether I would let you feed from me.”“Yes to all three.”“And none of that is love.”“No.”He did not look embarrassed. Did not soften the answer because he thought she might be offended. Hallie pulled out the cha

The first authorized Vael travelers arrived after sunrise. Only three. Hallie was relieved by the number. Three people were enough to test the compact without making Cedar Draw’s southern approach look like a road Everen had begun to claim. Saevren came with them as far as the entry point. He did not lead them across. That distinction mattered.Grant stood on Cedar Draw’s side of the marker with Caleb and two people from the boundary watch. Hallie had the notice copy in her hand. There was no welcome ceremony. Hallie counted the three travelers while Caleb checked that each person matched the authorization Everen had sent. That was all Cedar Draw needed to know.“Matches,” Caleb said.Grant looked at the travelers.“You know the conduct limits?”“Yes.”“No hostile use of Cedar Draw. If passage is suspended while you are inside our territory, you follow Cedar Draw’s direction until t

Austin learned Saevren had left Cedar Draw in the same conversation that confirmed the first authorized passage had worked.Three Vael travelers had crossed Cedar Draw without incident and reached the agreed exit. Then Saevren had gone home. The Bellamy Creek leadership member across from Austin looked almost relieved.“So Everen is finished there.”“Saevren left,” Austin said. “The compact didn’t.”That distinction mattered more than the departure.Saevren had arrived as one man Bellamy Creek could watch: full Vael, heir to Everen, Grant’s younger half-brother. Now he was gone, but the relationship he had negotiated remained. Vael movement through Cedar Draw was no longer a proposal. It had happened once, successfully.“Do we treat that as an alliance?” the man asked.“No. Limited cooperation.”“If it worked once, they’ll use it again.&r
