Chapter 31 The long hall smelled of blood and smoke and the sharp edge of fear when Riven walked in with Kai at his side. Fighters who could still stand lined the walls. The wounded had been carried to the healers. The elders stood in a tight cluster near the far end, faces carefully blank. Marn waited in the center of the open floor, two of Soren’s men holding his arms though he made no attempt to struggle. The leather folio of coded messages lay open on the cracked table. Riven did not waste time with formalities. He released Kai only long enough to take the folio, then pulled the Omega back against his side so the entire hall could see the claim and the blood still drying on both of them. “These are your marks,” Riven said, voice carrying cleanly through the silence. “Your hand. Your codes. Every patrol rotation the rivals used to slip past our lines. Every marker left with my mate’s name. You sold the dens from the inside while standing in this hall and calling for my removal.”
