For the last ten years of his life, Lucius had been pushed around by the man who was supposed to be like a second father to him. Each time he was pushed, he endured, but the anger only built up deep inside him, waiting for the chance he would be able to push back; and when he found that chance, he would take it.Outside Silas’ cabin, Lucius stood with his arms crossed over his chest, waiting. He knew his uncle was rarely around, but with the newest arrival, he was bound to still be in the pack, or on his way out. Knowing Silas’ movements wasn’t difficult; he just had to think like someone who had something to hide. His frequent outings without explanations were something only a suspicious person would do.It didn’t matter how long he had to wait for him; Lucius was prepared to even be there until sunset. He was not going to let him off the hook as easily as he always did. Luckily for him, he didn’t have to wait that long, as the owner of t

Lou’s journey to the river pack was quick; her fear for Blythe’s condition was her drive to run faster than she ever had before. The scenery she found upon arrival was shocking, to say the least; the wolves of the river were always known for their peace and tranquil environment, which was why they were the most dependable when it came to healing, but with the current state of the pack, Lou was worried that they wouldn’t even accept Blythe.When she caught wind of the news of the attack, she did not anticipate it would have been as bad, yet she was proven wrong. Most of the homes were damaged; the cloth that covered their teepees was torn beyond repair; there was also broken pottery everywhere, and ashes spread out across the floor. The only consolation was that, from the information she received, there were no lost lives, only injuries, some mild and some major.As she proceeded further, Lou searched for anyone who would be able to attend to her and B

Lucius’ response left Laila aghast; she expected something bad but did not anticipate it would be to that degree, and judging from his mood, Lucius did not anticipate it either. Laila wanted to know everything, down to the last detail, but she also did not want to push Lucius to talk because of how troubled he looked; and so, quietly, she sat beside him until he was ready to talk.A short while of silence passed them by; after, Lucius finally spoke, “It was terrible; never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that ever happening”“You said you found death; who died?”“The Wolves of the South”Laila wasn't too familiar with the territory and who lived where. “Who are those?”“They are rogues; they’re essentially the outcasts of Grimshore”“Did they do something wrong to end up as outcasts?”“They’re rogues; everything they do is wrong,

After Lucius had explained the disappearance issue that had arisen, Laila became more and more suspicious of the new settlers, especially Eve and the hunter-wolf; they were the only two who had dark secrets, which Laila knew about. It was no coincidence to her that a member of the pack had gone missing around the same time she found the two being sneaky; they were obviously involved somehow, and Laila had to get to the bottom of it. She had the feeling that she was the only one who could.With only speculation, Laila knew she would not get very far; she had to dig deeper and devote her time to following Eve around. It would have been more effective if she had followed both, but seeing as Lucius told her to stay away from the hunter, she had to settle for what she could. Lucius himself had his own issues to sort out; after finding out about the wolves of the south, he was presented with another problem which he had to solve no matter what, for the sake of the victim's spouse;

Darkness began to fade in the bedroom where Laila and Lucius lay asleep in each other's arms; the sun peeked through the curtains and announced it was morning. The rays of light woke Laila up first, as it was she who faced the window. In her drowsy state, she made an attempt to move forward but felt a firm grip around her waist preventing her from doing so; Lucius’ arm was fastened to her like a seat belt, and even in his sleep, he had a strong hold on her.Seeing as she couldn’t get up, she instead turned to face the man her heart was beating for. Taking in his features as he slept, Laila gazed upon his face, appreciating his looks; to her, he was even more handsome without trying. Laying close to Lucius in his bed with her hands on his chest felt unreal, after the time they spent together three years ago, making love was the last thing she saw herself doing with him; it wasn’t even an option at all and yet there she was, the morning after the most thrilling night she ever had, her s
