I didn’t have to look over to know that it was Simon that came out of the other vehicle. His footsteps are ones that I heard for my whole life. Unmistakable and comforting. “Simon, go around. Nathan said she under the north side in an opening.” “Jim said Silas was here.” “I can feel him.” I glanced over. He was in his warrior mode. “I’m going to see if I can find him and distract him. You two need to get the girls out and then come back for me.” “No!” Zayne hissed, grabbing my shoulders. “That is not happening.” “It is.” I nodded. “Sierra is ready.” I looked at Simon and then back at Zayne. “Come back quickly.” I muttered, before kissing Zayne hard. It was quick, the kind that said goodbye, but I hope to see you again. “Better run.” I said and took off to the south. “We will be talking about this!” Zayne growled in my head. “I usually can’t talk when you have me under you. Those are my favorite lectures.” I was hoping that woud distract him. “LUNA!” I heard a hiss behind me as

“Focus. Right here.” Zayne snapped his finger at me. “Hit me. Focus, Sierra.” She didn’t need telling twice. She forced my fist to fly out at his temple. Ducking at the last minute, she kept going. Zayne dodged some, but handled the body shots. “Don’t. Want.” She kept going. “To. Be. This. PERSON!” she landed a kick to Zayne’s chest. Sending him flying backwards. “Ry.” Nox wrapped his arms around me. “I don’t have a choice anymore.” I whispered as Zayne got up. My head fell against his chest as he held me. “I’ll never get to just be happy.” Nox let me go as Zayne grabbed my face. “We will kill them all. You get a chance at a family.” “My only family is in front of me.” I whispered. “The only thing I feel right now is anger.” Stepping out of his hands, I watched as Sarah and Nathan frowned and carried their bags to the SUV. Climbing into the passenger’s seat, I just waited. My elbow rested on the door, with my chin in my hand as the anger bubbled inside of me. I had a clear targe

“Breathe.” Zayne was holding me against him. Rocking me as he kissed my foreahead. “In and out.” It took a while for me to focus again. Feel the sparks that ran over my body. “I was happy living in my ignorant bliss.” The pain wrapped around my heart. “I didn’t want to face this. I just wanted to be happy.” There was more emotion in my voice than I ever heard before. More pain than I cared to focus on. I didn’t even recognize this person. Sierra was feeling the pain from opening this door. “I know it doesn’t make sense now, but it will. Everything will fall into place and you will find your happiness.” Zayne’s voice was full of conviction and promise. “We will find it together. You are worth finding happiness.” “You are more like your mother than you realize.” Nox was sitting down in front of us. My eyes looked over at him. There was some saddness, but a little happiness. “There is good in you. John didn’t kill that part of you. That’s why he never broke you. That good from your mo

“Just that.” Jim wasn’t concerned with Zayne’s shift. “The emotions and death haven’t consumed her heart completely. Driven her to kill herself or act in a way that caused her death. I assume you are a thrill seeker? Maybe enjoy things that could bring harm to yourself?” Sierra narrowed her eyes at him. “You forget one thing, human.” “What’s that?” Jim moved back to his seat, putting distance between us. “Riley still needs protecting. No one can break Riley, because I don’t have emotions to break. She’s learned to accept me. Learned my taste for blood is strong. I have to take over when she can’t handle all her emotions. She has lived this long because I have protected her. Nothing will stop me from doing that and I don’t care who it is I kill.” I had to close my eyes as Sierra walked back and sat down. When I opened my eyes again, I was in front. “She hasn’t decided to trust you yet,” I said, keeping my voice void of emotions. Jim didn’t seem phased. “I wouldn’t assume so.” “Da

“Seriously? You want to think about that?” “Girls are great multitaskers. I know guys struggle, but it is a gift we have perfected.” “I see bitchy attitude is back.” “Well, Nox. My life got turned upside down and I’m going to be spending the day with siblings I didn’t ask for as they try to pull emotions out of me, I don’t want to face. Just so I can control magic I don’t want. I feel bitchy is a good front for this. In the meantime, I want to know that Tiffany will handle and have all the power she needs to keep the pack growing. So, whatever happens to me. If I lose myself or whatever, she will make my wants and hers happen. Kids will still need shaping and growth is important.” “Nothing will happen to you!” Zayne growled. “Fuck. I forgot to close the mind-link. Just grab Tiffany and get over here.” Click. I looked at Xavior and frowned. “I’m in for it now.” The words were barely out of my mouth when Zayne stormed in with Gray on his heels. “Simon is coming.” He said, closing
