POV: OdalysI spent the afternoon spending money the way other women spend a holiday.By dusk I had cleared two entire wholesale warehouses. I bought flour by the pallet and rice by the ton and sugar by the truckload. I bought every sack of salt I could find, and canned peaches, and canned meat, and powdered milk, and cooking oil in forty-gallon drums. Every time I filled the space, it gave that soft pulse against my wrist, and I felt the room inside my mind stretch wider and wider, until I was carrying something nearly the size of a small supermarket.Near the end of the day, something new happened. At the far end of the white room, where the floor had been bare, a patch of dark, damp earth appeared, about the size of a garden bed. It smelled like rain.
