A Single Band-Aid Exposed Her Heart のすべてのチャプター: チャプター 1 - チャプター 9

Alex Warner's POVBy the time I limped my way to the elevator, Sadie Jensen caught up to me. As if worried about my reaction, she said, "Don't kick up a fuss about it. I only had one plaster, so I gave it to Connor to avoid arousing suspicion about our relationship."Even as she spoke to me, she stood three feet away and kept her arms folded in front of her.I was abruptly reminded of something.During a break in an interview, she'd ordered takeout for the entire department. I'd picked the roast beef for myself, but she'd brought it over to Connor Lewis before handing me the box with garlic-baked cod instead. When Connor practically leaned against her for support, she didn't back away. In fact, she ran her fingers through his hair, completely unconcerned about whether anyone saw them.My eyes stung as I watched her then. Seemingly noticing my gaze, she looked up and gave me a searching look, silently asking if something was wrong.I pointed at the garlic and shook my head. "I ca

Alex's POVAfter bandaging my ankle, Sadie brought over a bowl of chicken soup and set it in front of me."Connor said it's best to drink some after getting caught in the rain. He and I already had some. We left this bowl for you."The warmth that had just begun to bloom in my chest vanished in an instant. My gaze passed over the bowl of soup and settled on Sadie's beautifully defined brows.I finally said what I'd been holding in for so long. "Sometimes, I feel like Connor is the one who's actually your boyfriend."She froze for a second before letting out a snort and ruffling my hair. "What are you talking about? It's only because he's your friend that I—""Sadie, we're both male colleagues of yours. Why do you go out of your way to avoid arousing suspicion about us, yet let all those rumors about you and him run wild?"She started to speak, but I cut her off."Don't give me some platitude about how the innocent have nothing to hide. You two are the ones benefiting from thi

Third-Person POVConnor leaned against the couch in the office. After icing his face for a while, the redness and swelling had mostly subsided. He looked much better now.Sadie sat behind her desk, staring at her computer without absorbing a single word on the screen. She sent Alex a message."Have those people left? Where are you?"She didn't get a response.A little while later, she asked, "How's your face? Has it swollen up? If you can't find any ice in the pantry, I have some in the fridge in my office."Again, no response came.Sadie stared at the chat window, her frustration mounting to the breaking point. She shot to her feet to head out and find Alex, but Connor covered his face and called out, "Sadie, could you take me home first? That man hit me pretty hard... My head hurts a little."As he spoke, his eyes began to redden.Sadie waited to see if the commotion outside had stopped. A moment later, she replied, "Alright. I'll take you home first."She sent Alex a mess

Alex's POVI adapted to the new job in no time.A week later, after Ms. Gould returned with her team, she called me into her office and complimented me with a chuckle."I knew I wasn't wrong about you. It's only been a week, and several of the stock prices have gone up, just as you predicted. Keep up the good work! I have high hopes for you.""Thank you, Ms. Gould," I answered with a smile. She smiled faintly, looking nothing like the stern woman I'd first met a while back."Don't thank me. Thank your mentor, Professor Andrews. He was worried about you staying in Southport, so he asked me to look out for you if the opportunity ever came along. As it turns out, the opportunity did come along, and here you are now."Hearing Professor Andrews' name, I lowered my head sheepishly. When I quit my job as a securities analyst to move to Southport for Sadie's sake, he shook his head and tried to talk me out of it."Alex, love isn't everything. You need to think about your own future as

Third-Person POVSadie had been sitting on the pedestrian overpass for a month now. She knew Alex would never forgive her. He had always been the more decisive one of the two of them. Back then, he'd resigned and moved to Southport for her without any hesitation. In their relationship, she'd always been the one who benefited the most. He was the one who always had to take the initiative. Over time, she'd genuinely come to believe he couldn't live without her.But now that they were no longer together, she realized she was the one who remained trapped in the past. She'd sold her apartment. She couldn't bear to live there anymore. Every time she went back there, all she saw were traces of Alex. Her mind conjured up the memory of him sitting on the couch, drinking coffee as he flipped through a financial magazine. She saw the way he'd smile at her while tying on an apron and asking what she wanted for dinner. She suddenly remembered something Alex had once asked her. "When are you
