My Bestfriend is my mate

“Sir, here is the updated census for the next block. We don’t have any vacant beds for our service so there won’t be any new admissions,” Ash who is pretty cheerful omega, hands over the document to the Senior Resident on duty and smiles. Alex stands behind him, waiting. As always looking all grumpy. Students usually call him grumpy Alpha. But they still evey  both of their friendship.

Dr. Tamy who was beta takes the papers and says, “Thanks for this, Ash! I’m going to miss you guys. Your tandem’s really as efficient as ever. Do enjoy your community rotation, ok?”

“Yes sir, will do! Thank you for guiding me and Alex on our rotation. I really enjoyed it! I’m definitely going to apply to Pediatrics next year,” Ash beams before saying goodbye and turning to leave.

Alex follows Ash to the door when the resident asks him to come over. He motions for Ash to go ahead, and goes back to Dr. Tamy  table.

“When are you going to tell him?!” the resident asks.

“Tell who what?” Alex returns the question.

“You know, tell Ash that you like him? Bro, you’ve been crushing on him ever since our Bio days. It’s really a surprise how your so-called best friend seems oblivious about it, when you stare at him a lot all the time. A LOT!” Dr. Tamy is one of Alex close friends from college as they were in the same Biology Majors’ organization with Ash.

When Alex and Ash joined the club on their freshman year, Tamy was already a junior. Despite the age gap, he was very close to the both of them, especially to Alex. He witnessed how the two started out as strangers and how they became friends to best friends. They often did activities together, and even partnered up for laboratory work in their classes. They have been inseparable since then, and even until medical school, their closeness never wavered. 

Some even think them as a mate, but neither Ash or Alex confirm being eachother mate.

Maybe they don't want to confess at all.

Tamy had suspected Alex of having a crush on Ash. The way Alex looks at Ash has always been different—his eyes would light up, he smiles wider and his aura is well, brighter. People were actually scared of Alex, because he could seem intimidating in his intelligence and he rarely smiles. With Ash though, his soft-heartedness and humor would come through. Ever since he became friends with him, Alex has become more open to people. It’s not really that surprising to be attracted to a person like Ash. He has always been good-natured, friendly and he likes to joke a lot. His effortless ability to adapt to any situation and converse with anyone somewhat became a legend, back in their university days.

“It has been almost 5 years bro. On that day when you came to my apartment and told me that you like Ash in between your drunken sobbing, I wasn’t really that surprised. Internship’s almost over for you guys, it’s about time that you tell him how you feel,” Tamy says with genuine concern for his friend.

“You know why. He’s my best friend, Tamy. I don’t want things to change between us, even if it means having to keep my feelings a secret from him,” Alex smiles sadly and begins to walk away.

Tay calls to Alex and cheers him on with “All the best! Just consider it, ok? You’re losing more by not telling him. Who knows, he could feel the same way about you.”

Alex waves with his back turned and proceeds to the Intern’s classroom, where Ash is waiting for him, who immediately asks, “so, what did you and Tamy talk about?”

Alex just shakes his head and lays on the bed. Seeing that Ash seems bothered by his non-response, he adds, “he just reminded me to read up on the case that we admitted earlier for the endorsements. Oh, don’t forget to check for the blood sugar levels of Bed 27 and also check the urine output of Bed 21.”

“Ok. Just rest for now. The endorsement slides are done, you can check it if you want. There’s also coffee and cake in the fridge. I bought them for us to share but feel free to eat ahead,” Ash tells his friend who’s already falling asleep.

Alex just nods and closes his eyes.
