Chapter 1

1. Leaving Dad

Phoebe’s Pov

Whitney and her minions!

Oh, how much I hated them. They always found a reason to pick on me. Now, they had poured a bowl of the water from the lake on me. Therefore, my clothes were already the color of the lake. And, I stunk badly. Like a dead fish.

These were my thoughts as I stood at the balcony of an abandoned classroom that no one used anymore. I always come here to vent the so much anger withheld in me.

ā€œWhitney!ā€ I screamed almost ripping my guts out. I knew no one could hear me that was why I was this loud. The building to the main school was like ten blocks away. So far that Barry Allen would even have a hard time reaching there.

ā€œThis one is for you, Whitney!ā€ I added again. I was beginning to think this was a bad idea but it didn’t matter, did it? No one was here and no one could hear me anyway.

ā€œI hate you for making feel less! I hate you for clinging to my crush 24 hours in a day! And, most of all, I hate your stupid face!ā€ I cried out, with so much fury, fisting my hands into balls.

ā€œHey!!!ā€ I growled out even louder than ever. It was then I heard a rustling sound. I looked back only to sight a lean leg withdrawing to stand up. My eyes bolted immediately at it.

My heart immediately seized with so much panic. I mean, what if that was a rapist who resided here? I had practically walked into their den.

My days!

I watched in total horror as the figure stood up, stretching dangerously. I peeked to sight who the person was as he strode forward.

Impossible!

It was Asher, someone I had been liked since middle grade was walking towards me.

Asher was the college’s bad boy. Good looking, desirable, he was one of those guys that could kill your angels with a glance. His face was so beautiful. Though, there was a little difference in it all. He wasn’t a womanizer like most bad boys. Instead, it was the college girls that threw themselves at him.

He didn’t spare a glance at them because he hated women, females just like myself. Some people said something happened during his childhood. Rumors had it he was gay though. But I didn’t know how to react to that, knowing rumors could sometimes be true, and at the same time untrue.

I immediately snapped out of my thoughts as he halted right in front of me.

ā€œKeep it low if you can, Phoebe. Some people are trying to have a nap.ā€ he stated, grinning tightly at me with a stoic and unreadable expression on his face.

Oh, no. What have I done?

He had been here from the start. Don't freak out, Phoebe. Don't... What if he listened to my rants. I remember stating that he was my crush.

ā€œD-Did you. . . Did y-you hear e-everything?ā€ I asked him, stammering at the slightest moment I got. Why did bad things keep happening to me?

ā€œIt doesn’t matter now, does it?ā€ he asked, with an ignorant look. His brown hair was neatly combed with some strands, settling dangerously on his eyes.

That wasn’t a question. I wished the ground could open up and come swallow me right now.

ā€œButā€”ā€ I attempted to utter. I wasn’t ready for the next words that followed it.

ā€œGet lost.ā€ he seethed. My eyes directed to his irritated face, which was focused on me as he said it. Asher immediately headed out of the balcony walking with the rays of shimmering sunlight, glimmering on his angelic pale skin.

Uh-uh.

I think I had just made matters worse.

Fuck me!

             ===

ā€œHe really thinks highly of himself.ā€ My best friend snorted. He had come over to fix my flute. Cole had a chestnut hair and big green eyes. He had been my best friend ever since he helped me in eight-grade, with a really hard home work. If anything, Cole was a big thinker and fixer.

He could fix a whole shatter of broken glass. Ok… Not really. Pardon my hyperbole!

ā€œNo, maybe he told me to just leave the way so he could pass. Asher couldn’t be that bad?ā€ I voiced out, like any love sick teenager would. I had a huge crush on Asher after he gave me his foot wear, after mine damaged on a school camp. Ever since then I wasn’t just able to help myself but like him.

ā€œOh, shut up, Phoebe. You of all people should know what get lost means. He definitely wanted you out of his sight. Like never return ever!ā€ Cole exclaimed, giving me a straight look.

ā€œBut that doesn’t mean he’s rude. Maybe he needs some love. Who knows, ever since his mother left his father, he had been so stuck-up,ā€ I said.

ā€œNow, that’s a lame excuse, if that’s what you’re insinuating.ā€ My best friend said.

ā€œBut, it’s not dammit. I mean, who knows?ā€ I answered my best friend.

ā€œYou know what I think?ā€ he asked.

ā€œWhat?ā€ I asked too.

ā€œThat we have better things to do than talk about the college's bad boy, Asher.ā€ Cole said, giving me an assured glare.

ā€œLike what?ā€ I answered, with a question though.

ā€œThe karaoke party we've been planning.ā€ He spilled out.

Didn’t I tell you about that? Well, me and Cole came up with this crazy idea to do a karaoke party. After Whitney and her minions countless bully on me, he felt obliged to get me out of this mess.

Therefore, he believed that by us doing a karaoke party, we'd win the college’s heart. Cole thinks we'd be famous for the karaoke if we could invite the college’s heartthrobs to help us perform.

ā€œOh, you’re right. I totally forgot!ā€ I said, rubbing the back of my head. I was a person who easily lost focus on things.

ā€œYou better not. Ok, let me give you a head... Guess what, Phoebe?!ā€ he said directly holding my shoulders. He had this smile on his face that reminded me of Joker in suicide squad.

ā€œWhat?ā€ I asked him.

ā€œI have the perfect idea for this karaoke party.ā€ He made out.

I watched him scramble his pocket for something.

ā€œReally? I’m all ears.ā€ I responded, with an unsure look. He could have really weird ideas sometimes.

ā€œHere’s the list. And, you’re taking the first.ā€ He announced. I looked blankly at the first item on the list.

Get Asher, the college’s heartthrob to attend.
