Chapter 7

Selene POV

We apparated in what appeared to be the living room of a cabin. We stood in silence both staring at our connected hands. The sparks running through our bodies from our touch had confirmed what Liana had said. This wolf was my mate.

“So… pants?” I said awkwardly as I broke contact and turned away from him. I pretended to look around the room while he headed upstairs. The truth is, I needed to not be looking at him in order to make any sense of my thoughts. My head was racing with questions, many of which I’m sure he shared and neither of us held answers to. The thing that made me the most nervous was how intense my need to be near him had become at the slightest touch. Our wolves and our bodies responded instantly to the mate bond. Thankfully, my willpower was still intact… so far.

I heard the sound of his footsteps as he made his way back down the stairs, I turned to face him and offered a gentle smile which he returned. He had chosen a well-fitted pair of jeans with a simple black button-down which allowed his tattoos the show just slightly at the top from beneath the undone top button. He was extremely handsome. Far more so than any male of any species I had seen. And I’d seen my share.

“I’m Aiden, by the way…”

“Selene… you are the Alpha here?”

“Beautiful… and future. My father still holds reign.”

“You are of age are you not?”

“Ha… and then some. It’s… complicated. Well, maybe not so complicated now…” He said thoughtfully.

This was horribly awkward.

“Tea?” he asked as he moved to light the fireplace.

“Please.” I answered, feeling relieved that he seemed to be very good at making the situation more comfortable.

“I’ll just pop out and fill the kettle…”

“No need.” I smiled and gestured toward the steel kettle he was holding, now filled with water. I sent a spark beneath the bed of wood he had just made and gave the fire a little kick as well.

“What the hell?” He looked at me in astonishment. It seems magic is far from the norm here, even in the Druid pack.

As the daughter of the moon goddess, my powers were connected to the elements. She drew her power from the moon directly, whereas mine came from the elements that responded to the moon but connected to the Earth. Earth, wind, fire and water were at my disposal, which when wielded with the correct intent, made me fairly limitless.

As I considered my fated mate, I wondered if he would be accepting of me. Especially being an Alpha heir. What would this mean for his pack? Then there was my mother. My pairing was the only fated mating that was beyond her control. She didn’t get to choose so it was anyone’s guess how she would react when she found that my mate was a werewolf Alpha. And a mortal.

“I see magic is no longer practiced in the pack…”

“Magic? There are legends, of course. This is Ireland. But no, there are no practicing witches in the pack…”

“You think me a witch?” I snapped, insulted.

“I don’t know what you are. Or who.” He said with an eerie calm as he poured the tea and handed me a cup. His eyebrow raised slightly as he looked down at me. He was suspicious, and a little cautious but not afraid.

I realised we had much to discover about one another. And it seemed that he was willing.

“Are we safe here?”

“Safe? From what danger?”

“I mean, is it safe for us to speak freely? No one will hear what I am about to tell you?”

“Of course, you told me to think of somewhere we would not be found. This place is a secret of mine. What we say… or do here, will remain as such.”

I eyed him cautiously but decided I had no reason not to trust him. After all, I had just openly used magic and here he stood.

“Ok… I believe you’ve heard of the Moon Goddess?”
