We landed ten minutes later. The First Sergeant was running the show—two ambulances were there to load up Waters and me. A staff car with two nurses, a driver and a guard took the children away, and two MP jeeps were there to take the duffel bag. They cut away my pants leg in the ambulance. As soon as we reached the hospital I was wheeled into an X-ray room and then the gurney was pushed into a brightly lit room and I could feel them cut away the rest of my uniform.
