Which Donghua Adult Series Have English Subtitles?

I have been scouring the internet for a good while now for some donghua with English subtitles, and I have made a list for you where I post most of them. I only post the videos from the official uploads because the subtitles are way cleaner and the creators get paid for their work. There are a few series that I often recommend, such as ‘Mo Dao Zu Shi’ or ‘Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation’ (a dark and intense series), ‘Heaven Official's Blessing’ or ‘Tian Guan Ci Fu’ (a gorgeous BL drama with proper English subtitles for the official uploads), and ‘Link Click’ or ‘Shiguang Dailiren’ (an emotionally heavy time-bending mystery that has English subtitles for the official uploads as well).

Another older OAD is ‘Hitori no Shita: The Outcast’ (known in English as ‘The Outcast’) with supernatural darker action scenes. Another recently completed series is ‘Scissor Seven’ an adult edged comedy with a number of different quirks. I suggest starting with the official uploader for a series (Bilibili global channel, Netflix, Crunchyroll/Funimation where licensed) and seeing if they have turned on a language menu for subtitles/dubbing. Sometimes they haven’t, but in many cases fan subs turn up for such titles in the mean time. As for actually hunting down good quality Donghua with English subtitles/dubbing I generally recommend the following titles (all with good quality drama/pacing and storyline) which are worth searching for: ‘Mo Dao Zu Shi’ and ‘Heaven Official’s Blessing’.

I've curated a quick list of donghua with English subs that I watch on my weekends. These are mostly available on official channels with English subs: Heaven Official's Blessing, Mo Dao Zu Shi, Link Click, Hitori no Shita: The Outcast and Scissor Seven (a more adult-oriented comedy often available on Netflix with English subs).

My advice is to search for official uploaders (e.g. Bilibili international channel, Netflix, Crunchyroll/Funimation depending on the show) as the subtitles for official uploads are usually up to date and 100% accurate. I go back and forth rewatching lines from Heaven Official’s Blessing a lot because the subs really added a layer to the visuals and helped me pick up on lots of little emotional details that I wouldn’t have caught by just watching.

My rambling attempt at categorization is based on genres and subtitles availability. So, first, are the more emotionally mature dramas like 'Link Click' (time travel, melancholic vibes) and 'Heaven Official’s Blessing' (romantic, slow-burning). Those two in particular require decent subtitles since they often have poetic lines and build up slowly, which can get lost in sloppy translations.

Then there’s the much darker/fantasy oriented titles: “Mo Dao Zu Shi” aka “Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation” and “Hitori no Shita: The Outcast”. As these titles carry very heavy themes, the majority of their subtitled uploads are done by platforms that have officially licensed the title. For styles and others that are very short and purely “eye-candy” there are sometimes English subtitled uploads of these titles on the YouTube channel for the show or on Bilibili’s international channel (as the title is available on Bilibili in that region).

Finally there’s the outliers ‘Scissor Seven’ which has been uploaded to Netflix with English subtitles and dubbing and ‘The King’s Avatar’ which has lots of techie-adult fandom energy. I first search for titles on Bilibili to see if there are any official uploads with English subs and then search for region-licensed titles on Netflix, Crunchyroll and Funimation. Community subs can fill the gaps where titles aren’t subtitled but do be sure to check the accuracy of the subs. I have a soft spot for ‘Link Click’ and ‘Mo Dao Zu Shi’ as they have great re-watch value and have good subtitles.
