Can I Download Dreame Novels In PDF Format?

Some love storing digital books as PDFs for offline reading but the Dreame app mainly supports in-app streaming. Does anyone know a workaround to save their stories as PDF documents?

Most of the PDF saving browser extensions I tried do not work on Dreame’s unique layout and design.

So for now, I'm just using the offline mode to read on my commute etc. It doesn't allow you to download the whole book at once, only chapter by chapter. I've seen some scripts that allow you to scrape the Dreame site and reformat the story into a PDF, but that's a bit of a gray area and most sites don't allow it. So for now, the safest thing to do is to stick to the app. If you REALLY need a PDF version of a story, you might be able to find it on Amazon or somewhere else that the author has chosen to sell their work.

I try to make time to read while I am traveling to areas with little to no service but typically I have to settle for reading on my phone which can be very hard on my eyes after a while of reading. I have started looking for other stories similar to ones I have read on Dreame that allow for downloads in PDF format. Many of the titles I have found on Smashwords as well as through authors’ Patreon pages have been great reads and have even led to me discovering even better authors and ways in which to support them directly for their work.

To offline read Dreame novels we don’t necessarily have to read them in PDF format. By using the app’s download function we can store the novel’s chapters on our device locally. This function can be found under the novel’s cover image in the story’s details page. There you will find the download icon on the right-hand side which we have to click in order to download a novel. Note that offline reading novels is the only purpose this function serves. If you need to archive Dreame novels or read them on other devices (e.g. Kindle) then you have to check whether the novel’s author has published the novel separately on Amazon etc. (as novel’s) and if he did then you can find the novel under the author’s name (often under slightly different title). Many Dreame authors already did that.

Person who loves to organize digital files, here. It’s actually something I tried to make work for myself, but in the end I just sort of had to surrender to the fact that my Dreame library is going to be completely separate from my Calibre library. That’s sort of how I think about my ‘impulse buy’ shelf vs. my ‘carefully curated’ library – both are wonderful in their own way. But I also really enjoy that this part of my reading life is sort of low-stakes. Not every book needs to be a ‘forever’ read, after all. I can just read something for a lazy afternoon or so. Dreame is really great at providing that sort of reading experience, so no PDFs for me, but also – and this is really important – no pressure. It’s just a different kind of reading.

I'd say the app is fine (as it is). The app is free to download and most of the stories are free to start reading as well. Offline reading is also available which is great. Sure, there are things that I would like to change, such as maybe being able to buy a story as a permanent PDF for my absolute faves, but no, I won't lose any sleep over this. The entertainment value of the stories on Dreame far outweighs the frustration of not being able to download a story as a PDF. Life's too short to worry about such digital nonsense. I'll just have to be content to read the next 'CEO's Contract Bride' story instead and put my digital hoarding aside for now. The stories are meant to be fun, not stressful.

The quest for a universal ebook format continues to remain elusive with every platform attempting to build their own walled garden. Dreame, the platform I review here today, is no different. My library exists across numerous platforms, and I utilize each platform for its respective strengths. I use Dreame to read serialized romance titles, Amazon Kindle for my novels, and Scribd for my audiobooks. So long as one platform fails to deliver a particular feature (e.g. PDF support), I don’t view it as a problem since that platform was never going to provide a vehicle for my permanent library. Rather, each serves up a particular brand of entertainment that I find to be fun and disposable. By framing the platform in this manner, the lack of said feature is largely mitigated. I simply use the right tool for the job.

I appear to have made this request a couple of months ago but alas I don’t seem to have saved the stories to PDF in my download folder. I’m pretty sure some of these serialized story apps lock things down tightly and Dreame certainly does. As far as I can tell, there’s no way to get the Dreame novels (free or coin locked) downloaded as PDFs from within the official app. This is likely to be a strategic move on their part to keep readers locked within the Dreame ecosystem, where they can continue to extract value from you. I have found scattered reports of some of the stories appearing on various third-party sketchy sites but the formatting is usually terrible, and I wouldn’t imagine that reading them there would be entirely legal. But reading within the app and downloading individual chapters for offline reading there is probably your best bet for now. Not ideal, but it’s about as straightforward as things are likely to get for apps of this type.

From a technical/legal standpoint: no. The content you have read is licensed to Dreame to read within the app environment in which it was published. The text cannot be redistributed in standalone form (e.g. as a PDF) – that would be copyright infringing unless you have been granted permission to create a derivative work. The authors of such content have entered into license agreements with Dreame that dictate how their work shall be distributed by the company. You do not own the content you have read using your purchased coins: you merely have been granted access to read the work by virtue of your purchase of a key to view it. This is how digital content subscriptions and microtransactions work.
