What Happens To Billy From Young Sheldon In The Finale?

I have a vague memory of this, but I would probably get some details wrong. My main memory of him is that he was little in the early seasons of the show, and then suddenly he was as tall as his mom, talking about college. It felt like he grew up so fast, even in a fictional Texas setting. If anyone remembers when he grew up, I'd appreciate them letting me know so I can get the details straight.

The fact that it ended at season 6 is understandable. The story that was to be told with ‘Young Sheldon’ had a built-in end. He’s a genius kid in advanced situations until he grows up to be the man in ‘The Big Bang Theory’. They hit all the important formative moments for him and then there was no need to continue the show. They could have continued it but then they would have run the risk of repeating plot points or watering down the main character in order to continue the show for the sake of continuing it. Instead, they were able to end it while the show was still strong and full of good chemistry and story. Also, the creative team of the series must have wanted to protect the tone and the emotional core of the show. It would have been terrible to stretch the show to keep the chemistry and the stories working, but to keep them in a way that wouldn’t have been true to the series, and to its fans. It was a respectful ending to the series and that’s all we can ask for.

When ‘Young Sheldon’ finally revealed that Brenda Sparks was to be Georgie’s wife, I was so pleased. It wasn’t some glamorous, teenaged girlfriend from his past or even some aspirational teenager from the wide expanse of Sheldon’s childhood. Brenda is down to earth, practical and lets Georgie grow up in many slow burning scenes where he is forced to show responsibility, deal with conflict and learn to put his pride aside in order to function in the real world as a fully grown man. This serves a purpose in the story as it further explains pieces of Georgie that the audience only previously got glimpses of and ties in his working-class mentality to the rest of the Cooper family. I liked that they portrayed the future of a main character in such an “ordinary but meaningful” way. This really makes the Coopers seem like a real family and not just a set of characters that the writers created to fit into certain archetypes.

Within the US for streaming the show, expect TV‑PG ratings to be designated along with occasional light language or even more suggestive dialogue being noted with TV‑PG‑L or TV‑PG‑D designations. However, for those viewing from outside of the US, all episodes would be rated accordingly and thus specific rating icons for ‘12’ or similar PG rated designate of your country would appear in place of the above noted TV‑PG ratings. Content wise, it’s your standard, milder, sitcom fare: some family angst, school, occasional grown-up humor. There’s some very mild, occasional coarse language, but nothing remotely graphic. I think I worked this out, provided you accept the timeline laid out by the pilot. So, in 1989, when the show is set, Sheldon is 9 years old and his older brother Georgie is 17. Therefore, by the time we reach the end of season 4 (1992-93), we have a 12-year-old Sheldon and a 20-year-old Georgie. But that can’t be right, that would make Georgie older than I’ve imagined him to be. Maybe the seasons don’t cover a full year. I try to avoid getting drawn into all these timelines and debates about the show as it’s a comedy and not a historical documentary. For the purpose of the show, Sheldon looks and acts like a young adult. That’s good enough for me.

Nope. All you need is what you see. Those scenes are so magical just the way they are. The scene where Sheldon writes up a contract with his dad for borrowing something? Brilliant. The scene where he uses logic to stand up to a bully? Classic. There is no need to add more scenes of the characters in order to appreciate their development as people. Any version claiming to have more scenes than what you have seen is likely a glitch or a mislabeled version. I stick to the usual sources of streaming as well as reputable fansub groups who care about translation, not adding content that does not exist. Their work is to make that dialogue sparkle in Vietnamese, and they do a fine job of it.

For those of you who may be stumped on this, ‘Young Sheldon’ is a prequel series to ‘The Big Bang Theory’ that follows the character of Sheldon in the years leading up to him meeting the other main characters in ‘TBBT’ when he moves to California to live with his estranged father in Medford, TX, a town where he spent most of his childhood and teen years. There are also many flashback episodes within ‘The Big Bang Theory’ itself, some of which show scenes from Sheldon’s childhood that are not included in ‘Young Sheldon’. To actually follow the show in chronological order, you start with the childhood flashbacks, then watch ‘Young Sheldon’, and then proceed through all 12 seasons of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ in order. It really gives you insight into the reasons behind all of his ‘vices’ and ‘phobias’ and is also hilarious to see the ways in which his various traits are exacerbated by his very troubled and quite comic book-like childhood. It is also really interesting to watch the reverse character development of the main characters. We can clearly see how Sheldon’s actions, behaviors and lines from TBBT originated from his childhood in Medford. The supporting characters in the prequel series also get a lot of development in the episodes that follow them throughout the years, including Georgie and Missy. Watching their appearances in the original series after they have been developed in the prequel really brings new perspective. I would suggest watching the first few seasons of TBBT first, to get used to the ‘classic’ jokes, then do a full chronological re-watch of YS to get a better insight to the tragicomedy of Sheldon’s childhood.

This also brings up the rest of the characters’ development. While in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ we only get to know Sheldon’s family through his stories and occasional visits from them in ‘Young Sheldon’ we get to know the rest of the family so well as they are the main characters. Therefore if you watch ‘Young Sheldon’ before ‘The Big Bang Theory’ then every time Sheldon is talking about his family in ‘TBBT’ you get to understand so much more than you would have otherwise. It’s really fun to watch the original series once you have witnessed the ‘reality’ first and can therefore compare Sheldon’s memory/perception to that. It adds so much more subtext to his stories.
