Man, it's tough to pin down just a few characters as 'key' in 'The Espers Game' since the cast expands so much after the first arc. I'd argue the core trio is Luo Fei, the main protagonist with that mysterious latent power everyone wants to control; Professor Aris, the morally ambiguous mentor who designed the original simulation; and Kaela, the rival-turned-ally from the European branch who brings in the whole political intrigue angle. They drive most of the central conflict.
But the novel really gets interesting with the secondary players. Jin-Seok, the Korean esper who can manipulate data streams, becomes crucial for hacking the game's backend in the 'Neo-Tokyo Blackout' arc. And you can't forget the antagonist faction, the 'Silent Chorus' – their leader is never physically seen, just this pervasive digital presence that messes with everyone's heads. The story leans heavily on how these characters' abilities and loyalties intersect, not just on one hero's journey.
I still think the most compelling dynamic is between Luo Fei and Kaela, though. Their trust is so brittle, and every alliance feels like it could shatter in the next chapter.

Luo Fei, Kaela, Professor Aris. The Silent Chorus as the big bad. Jin-Seok matters a lot halfway through. Anya's later stuff changes everything. Too many names after volume five, hard to track.

Honestly, I found the character bloat a real problem in the later volumes. The initial key characters are clear: Luo Fei, Professor Aris, and Kaela. But then the author kept introducing new espers from every new region, each with a lengthy backstory, and some just vanish for hundreds of pages. The 'Silent Chorus' villain started as a cool, ominous concept but became a muddled mess of motivations by volume seven.
My focus stayed mostly on Luo Fei's internal struggle – his fear of his own power is more interesting than the external battles. The side characters I cared about were the ones tied directly to that, like his sister who gets caught in the crossfire. Everyone else felt like window dressing for bigger fight scenes.

From a structural point of view, the novel operates with a core narrative group and a rotating ensemble. The indispensable keys are Luo Fei (our POV anchor), Professor Aris (the source of the game's lore and central moral conflict), and the entity representing the Silent Chorus. Kaela is pivotal as the primary foil and external conscience. Beyond that, characters shift into importance based on the arc. Jin-Seok is critical for the tech-heavy midsection. The medic esper, Anya, has a surprisingly vital role in the biological warfare subplot that reframes the entire purpose of the Esper Game.
What's clever is how the author uses minor characters who seem like one-offs – a disgraced referee, a corrupted system moderator – to reveal hidden layers of the game's mechanics. They're not 'key' in the traditional sense, but they function as crucial puzzle pieces the main cast relies on to progress. The character network is less a fixed hierarchy and more a dynamic web.

"I know, I should not cling in the past but I want to see him. Even once. Please let me say goodbye to him" These are the words that Eschia said that night. When she woke up, she was transported into the world of the novel that her best friend wrote. Wait, there's more! The novel's main characters' appearances are based on her and her boyfriend. That's not a big deal right? It's an advantage instead! However, it only applies if she reincarnated as the female lead and not the villain.
Evy was a simple-minded girl. If there's work she's there.
Evy is a known workaholic. She works day and night, dedicating each of her waking hours to her jobs and making sure that she reaches the deadline.
On the day of her birthday, her body gave up and she died alone from exhaustion.
Upon receiving the chance of a new life, she was reincarnated as the daughter of the Duke of Polvaros and acquired the prose of living a comfortable life ahead of her.
Only she doesn't want that. She wants to work.
Even if it's being a maid, a hired killer, or an adventurer. She will do it.
The only thing wrong with Evy is that she has no concept of reincarnation or being isekaid. In her head, she was kidnapped to a faraway land… stranded in a place far away from Japan. So she has to learn things as she goes with as little knowledge as anyone else.
Having no sense of ever knowing that she was living in fantasy nor knowing the destruction that lies ahead in the future. Evy will do her best to live the life she wanted and surprise a couple of people on the way. Unbeknownst to her, all her actions will make a ripple. Whether they be for the better or worse.... Evy has no clue.
