The crossovers had the best guest villains of the season. The villains had to be big enough for both teams, so they were all kinds of ridiculous. There was the guy with the melody-mind-control app, and the guy with the giant robot. They raised the stakes in those episodes, even if they were solved in fairly silly ways. I think there were 3 crossover episodes total. They hit all the marks for a great kids’ crossover: simple plot, fun character interactions, and a big, dumb, visual-effects-heavy finale. The crossovers weren’t trying to be deep or anything, they just wanted to be a fun party. And they succeeded on that level.

I basically cried on this one. 'I Kill Giants' by Vertigo follows Barbara, a lonely young girl who believes she is required to defend her town against giants. What makes Barbara interesting is that her approach to Giants is almost that of a Dungeon Master, creating her own story with her own personal arsenal of weapons that she makes herself. What the reader interprets to be a quirky and imaginative young girl avoiding her real life is in fact a young girl avoiding her real life because her mother is dying of cancer. The creatures she believes to be Giants are manifestations of her own fear of her looming loss. A very beautiful film in a very non-pretty way. The final battle with the ‘Titan’ is not a test of muscle, but a test of will and ultimately of when to surrender. The film ends with a very realistic hug between Barbara and her mother, and that’s all. I cried.

Butters’, the lovestruck and slightly naive, attempt to ship them in a way that is sort of innocent and nice, the ever-sarcastic Cartman’s cynical comments that suggest he is maybe, just a little, jealous of all of the attention that Tweek and Craig are receiving, and the baffled acceptance of the boys’ parents all serve to highlight the humor in the situation. The episode “Tweek x Craig” is perhaps the most humorous, in that everyone in town is convinced that the two fourth-graders are engaged in a dramatic yaoi story. The ways in which Stan and Kyle attempt to be supportive of the two boys are endearingly awkward. Jimmy’s news specials, here, serve to highlight the ways in which the media can blow something so very out of proportion in order to drive up ratings. And the humor in all of this, again, does not come at the expense of the feelings of Tweek and Craig. Rather, it comes at the expense of the overinvested feelings of everyone else. The two boys are sort of the straight men in their own love story, which is very funny. And the contrast between their straight-faced, serious moments and the hilarious going-on’s of those around them serves to make their heartfelt moments all the more powerful and believable.

I would suggest watching the first few seasons of TBBT first, to get used to the ‘classic’ jokes, then do a full chronological re-watch of YS to get a better insight to the tragicomedy of Sheldon’s childhood.

Prime Megatron’s greatest strength is legendary. Not only can he blast through walls and withstand massive explosions from tanks, he is also an incredibly charismatic leader. There is something about him that makes you believe in whatever cause he’s fighting for, even if it’s Evil. The Decepticons continue to follow him even in the face of defeat again and again. And there is no way that they continue to follow him because of his bluster and boast. It’s his sheer resilience in the face of nearly insurmountable odds that wins the day. And on a physical level, he is a brute. His fights with Optimus Prime are some of the most intense, longest-running storylines in history. But it’s the quietest of moments where he shows his greatest strength. Silencing a room with a single glance, giving a pep talk that stirs even the most skeptical of Decepticons to achieve great things. That is the kind of strength that no one can match. He is the very definition of unshakable and undeniable.

What I found really interesting is that this story does not end in England. James doesn’t return to claim the aunts’ house. Instead he leaves that entire world behind and sets up home in a totally new land with his new people. I like episode 118 because, even though it isn’t a full fight scene, it shows how Ichigo stops Rukia’s execution by momentarily freezing time using his spiritual pressure.
