How Does 'Omniscient Reader'S Viewpoint' End?

Does anyone else remember how the first season of Ball Revue ended? And that post-credits scene with the ‘Next Story’ tease? That was over a year ago and since then the fandom has slowly but surely devolved into a group of people making up conspiracy boards. I've also seen rumors that there might be a movie made to bridge the two main story arcs of The God of High School, but I haven't seen any real rumors (unsubstantiated by reliable sources) to back up those claims. I'm assuming the production is being lined up with the current side stories that are being published in the webtoon. The long, brutal pipeline from concept to completion of production is just going to have to wait, I suppose. To put it in perspective, we found out about the first season in 2020 and then it dropped in 2023. Following the same pattern of 3 years for planning and actual production, we would only arrive at the new season by 2026.

Another insight comes from Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosung’s relationship with Kim Dokja. As two of the ‘found family’ members of Dokja, they look up to him as a father. Kim Dokja protects them because he feels he must make up for his lonely childhood. The attachment and the love he feels towards the two of them is one of the purest forms of love he has ever experienced. In contrast to his struggles to deal with his adult relationships, Kim Dokja is able to deal with the two children in a very straightforward way. Their relationships with each other are clearly defined as non-romantic. This in turn makes one realize that his relationships with Yoo Joonghyuk and Han Sooyoung are of an entirely different nature and that he is struggling to come to terms with them in a way that is ambiguous.

One of my favorite moments from the alternate ending was so obscure that I wouldn’t have even remembered it had I not written this out. In the prime timeline before the fracture, Kaelen’s favorite book was an obscure philosophical treatise on trees and memory. And in the new timeline, Lyra, with no memory of Kaelen, is drawn to the same book in a library – and can offer no reason for her fascination. What I like about this is that it’s not a memory returning – instead, the connection between Kaelen and Lyra has imprinted in a deep, subconscious way. In fact, connection to another person is not always the same as recalling a specific memory of them – sometimes we’re drawn to the same stars, the same books, the same quiet spaces. It’s his influence on her, left to seep into her every instinct. And it’s far more haunting and beautiful than any simple reunion.

Honestly? This is a divisive book. After so much intense and thrilling cat-and-mouse games between our hero and villain, it does not end with them in love. It does not even end with them together. The end of the story is that the villain wins in some way, specifically that they reject the entire game of hero and villain. They use the hero’s greatest weakness (their obsessive nature) to expose the hero to the public and bring down their authority. We last see the villain on a train, looking out at the unfamiliar scenery of another place, shadowless. It’s a bittersweet but very much open-ended ending. It’s not about them. It’s about him/her. And it’s very freeing. I didn’t want more from this book. I thought that was the perfect ending to it. Many others will disagree with me, though.

I threw the book across the room in a huff (and then promptly picked it up to reread important sections). ‘Belladonna’ is a clever, twisted novel that sets up the reader for the start of a supernatural journey from the very first page. But the true brilliance of the story lies in its ability to completely reverse the reader’s understanding of the narrative when the big reveal about the protagonist’s nature comes. A twist is by nature a ‘gotcha’ moment, but this one worked for me because it so fundamentally shifted the emotional center of the novel. The way it changed my perception of every single relationship in the novel, especially with the various members of staff at the manor, was so effective that it even managed to stay with me after finishing the book.

Of course, the biggest variety within this category are probably the titles that hybridize different genres in interesting ways. So for example an infidelity manhwa with fantasy elements, like the FL possibly getting supernatural assistance or possibly be reincarnated into a new body, would, if done right, be able to provide a very pure form of wish-fulfillment for the kind of story where the FL seeks revenge or recovery from an ex’s betrayals. And here the main interest lies in the various and creative ways in which the special rules that govern such fantasy stories can result in spectacular, unambiguous comeuppance for the lecherous hero, or in a deeply moving and satisfying recovery for the woman. On the other hand, a very realistic take on a manhwa can be so satisfying because it’s so, so, real. A bittersweet ending where the FL is happier but scarred for life is so much more satisfying than a mushy ending where everything is wrapped up all neat and pretty. The FL’s ex may not get his comeuppance but he can be shown to be mediocre for the rest of his life, which is very satisfying to read. Again, it comes back to what the reader is looking for in a story. Are they looking for a way to escape reality or do they want to read about reality and how people can heal from their pasts in realistic ways? The ending should be satisfying in that it feels like it belongs to the story. The ending should feel like it grew from the story’s own soil, not from some other story.

My take? The ending is kinda lame. It sets up this whole scenario where the OP protagonist is done, but then he still manages to save the day and get the respect of the kingdom. He even gets to leave with the promise of more adventures in the future. It really didn’t live up to the title of being bitter, though. I think the author was going for a sarcastic isekai and managed to only achieve half of that in Volume 1.

The debate around whether ending 5 in 'Bad Ending Party' is the 'true' ending is one of those juicy discussions that fans can't seem to get enough of. On one hand, ending 5 feels like it wraps up the story with a sense of finality that the other endings don't quite achieve. It's darker, more introspective, and leaves you with this lingering feeling that the protagonist's journey has reached its inevitable conclusion. The way it ties up loose threads and delivers a punchy emotional payoff makes it stand out, almost like the developers put extra care into crafting it. But does that automatically make it the 'true' ending? Not necessarily. I've seen games where the 'true' ending is hidden behind specific conditions or requires multiple playthroughs, and 'Bad Ending Party' seems to play with that idea too. Ending 5 might feel the most complete, but some fans argue that the other endings offer equally valid perspectives on the story. For instance, ending 3 has this bittersweet ambiguity that some players find more satisfying because it leaves room for interpretation. It's like the game is teasing you with the idea that there isn't just one 'correct' way to experience the narrative. The beauty of it is that the 'true' ending might be whatever resonates most with you personally. For me, ending 5 hits hardest, but I love that the game doesn't force a single interpretation down your throat.

I watched the whole series last month and, even though the ending was totally satisfying, it left me feeling kind of empty. Kind of how you feel when a friend of yours has gone through hell to get to a better place and you have to bid them farewell with the hope that they can now relax in a quieter town. You’re happy for them but you’ll miss the struggles that you went through with them. The way the practical plot of the series played out was very satisfying: the system is defeated, the true villain is defeated, Penelope is safe. But the emotional journey that the series took us on is what’s been left with me. The fear that she felt all the time, the constant calculations, her loneliness – all of that has gotten under my skin. And the ending is quiet and doesn’t even attempt to drown you in a celebration of her. It just makes you sit with her and the weight of her journey. Effective, I suppose, but not really “fun” to watch in the classical sense.

Someone should write up the visual symbolism of the final chapter of our story here. Rather than recapping the plot, one could focus on how the artist handled the ‘loss of genius’ to our protagonist. As his memories fade, the artwork surrounding him shifts in subtle but telling ways. Lines that were once excessively detailed and hard to the point of being almost grotesque, now are ‘softened.’ Panals that once were overcrowded with hyper-clarity and minute detail to the point of being almost cartoonish are now less crowded. And instead of the technical diagrams for building, he’s shown in simple environments with a focus on the human in front of him. The expression in his eyes, which were always excessively focused in an unnatural way, are now simply tired but peaceful. All of this to say that the ending is good. The artwork sells the moment as being quietly melancholy but hopeful.
