Wait, does anyone else have issues with certain books just... not syncing on Audible, while others do? I swear it's title-dependent. Maybe it's an encoding thing with older titles. It's rare, but it happens, and it's frustrating when you expect it to just work.
OverDrive (the app, not just the website) does sync your position for library audiobooks. It's the older system that Libby replaced, but if your library still supports it, the functionality is there. The interface feels dated, but it gets the job done.
If you're technically inclined, Plex with the Prologue app (for iOS) or Chronicle (for Android) can manage your personal audiobook library with perfect sync. It uses your own Plex server, so you control everything. The sync is spot-on because it's built for this specific use case by passionate developers.
It's a project, but the result is a perfect, personalized system.

I Heard My Mate’s Mistress’s Thoughts, and Stole Her Alpha King

On my way home, I saved a witch from a rogue attack. She thanked me with a small vial of potion, which would let me hear other people’s thoughts.
That night, at the pack banquet, I heard my mate’s thoughts.
‘Serena just bought the sexiest lingerie. I need to find some excuse to ditch Aurora tonight.’
A second voice cut in, a woman’s.
‘She has no idea every time Lucian says he’s working late, he’s with me. We’ve slept together so many times now.’
‘Once I’m pregnant with Lucian’s child, he’ll have every reason to break the mate bond with her. And when he becomes Alpha, I’ll be the Luna.’
I almost laughed out loud. What Serena didn’t know was that Lucian was the Alpha’s illegitimate son. He’d never inherit anything.
I was already running through how to make them pay when another voice broke through. It came from the man standing next to Serena, the shabby boyfriend everyone in this pack looked down on.
‘How am I supposed to tell her I’m the heir to the Alpha King?’
My eyes went wide. I kept my face blank and walked straight up to him.
“Hey. Mind if I get your number?”

The Moon Goddess may have written the rules, but these she-wolves are tearing them apart.
In this sweeping five-book saga, the Lycanthrope species—creatures of power beyond mortal imagination—dare to defy destiny itself. Mate bonds ignite passion and peril, but every she-wolf knows love can be a weapon as much as a gift. Tradition demands obedience. They choose rebellion.
It begins with Ana, a Hybrid caught between worlds, whose collision with Romani, the ruthless Lycan Crown Prince, sparks a bond that could either save her—or destroy her. His dominance threatens to consume her, yet Ana refuses to bow. Every choice she makes twists the Goddess’s plan tighter, until fate itself trembles.
From Ana’s defiance to the cunning of wolves who wield mate bonds like blades, each book unveils a battle where freedom clashes with love, rebellion with tradition, and power with vulnerability. The Goddess watches. The wolves fight back. And destiny will bleed before it breaks.
This is not a tale of wolves who obey.
This is the saga of wolves who refuse to surrender…
Apple Books does this seamlessly if you're in the Apple ecosystem. You can add your own audiobook files (like from CDs or other sources) to the Books app on a Mac, and they'll sync via iCloud to your iPhone and iPad, complete with progress. For purchased audiobooks from Apple, it's obviously automatic. It's not cross-platform to Android, but for iPhone+iPad users, it's built-in and free beyond the cost of the hardware.
I'm just here waiting to see if anyone mentions a magic app I haven't heard of. My Libby holds are all 8 weeks out, and I'm bored. Sync is cool, but content is king. Anyone have any hidden gem audiobook recommendations? I like weird horror and detailed historical fiction.
One minor gripe with Libby: if you listen to a book, return it, and then borrow it again months later, it does remember your old progress and asks if you want to resume. That's good! But sometimes I want to start over, and it's a little stubborn about asking. A tiny interface quibble.
The sync feature was the main reason I stuck with Scribd. I listen to an audiobook on my drive, then the app knows exactly where I am when I open the ebook version on my tablet later.
It's a neat trick that blends the two formats. Their recommendation algorithm is okay, but that seamless switch between text and audio is the real standout for me.
The frustrating thing is when an app has sync but it’s buried in settings or doesn’t work reliably unless you have a constant internet connection. Good sync should be the default, obvious, and work offline-to-online seamlessly. You should finish a chapter on a plane, land, and have your progress update automatically when you get signal.
Kindle handles this offline gap perfectly. Some other apps I’ve tried require you to manually open the book while online to 'push' your progress. That’s not real sync; that’s a manual backup. Always check reviews for comments on offline sync behavior.
