Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is currently available for free with ads on Tubi or The Roku Channel and can change often so I’ve listed JustWatch where it’s currently playing. For more of the same kind of survival against the odds and high stakes trials, check out the web novel Trial of Flame. In this challenging story, contestants are dropped into a deadly volcanic maze which constantly shifts. The only thing as fragile as the ground they’re standing on are the alliances they form to try and survive.

I spent the last week of so trying to track down a legitimate free stream, but so far no luck. In the end, I just rented it on YouTube for $3.99. The hassle of searching through unscrupulous websites just isn’t worth it at times. A rental is cheap enough, and you get a perfectly good, clean, high quality copy, without any annoying pop-ups to get in the way of watching it. Tonight was certainly better spent than trawling through a load of links which were probably all broken anyway.

This is really a great thread for discovering new (even often overlooked) options to paid streaming services like movies and TV shows through library apps. Rather than rely on some random blog post that likely contains an affiliate link or two, this type of crowdsourced information is far more valuable.

You want to watch Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials for free? Well, you’ve come to the right place, because I’ve spent way too many evenings browsing out the long list of free streaming apps and the catalog of services offered by your local library. It’s a weird middle ground between totally free and illegal to download/P2P streaming, but within that area there are a few constants that have a good selection of the mainstream, big budget films.

I would also recommend trying ad-supported streaming services, which include Tubi, Pluto TV, Freevee, Vudu’s “Movies on Us”, Plex, and more. Streaming services change what they offer on a regular basis. For example, Tubi and Pluto TV typically offer older studio releases, which is why I look at both of these services for free movies. In some cases, Freevee even has mainstream catalog titles available for free to stream. The Peacock free tier also offers up movies from the 20th Century/Fox back catalog, though their selection of titles changes often. Search for the movie title on the individual service or use a service aggregator, which is often the easiest way to search for free movies streaming online.

You may also find that aggregating services (to list and link to where to stream movies for free, to rent or to subscribe to) are an excellent way to search for a particular movie title, country by country (e.g. JustWatch, Reelgood). Library services can also carry a selection of major studio movies – I have a huge amount of fun browsing through free titles on Hoopla for the weekend to watch, and I stumbled upon a selection of recent films available to stream for free with a library card on Kanopy too – do check your local library’s digital collection.

Of course, I should add a few more notes here to steer you right. The typical big box store like YouTube Movies, Google Play, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video will always offer The Scorch Trials for rent or to purchase in some manner. On the other hand, free with ads or library style services such as the ones mentioned above can indeed turn up a title of this nature and it will often be readily playable for free with only occasional ad breaks within the stream. What won’t play for free in the US (for example) may play freely in say other countries where contracts have been granted to other companies that supply the free channels of streaming TV and videos. To this end, JustWatch for example should show you that a title has been contracted to a free service in your region. In the alternative, set your country to that of the video’s free availability. Other free streaming apps will also vary greatly by region. Do avoid the obvious black market for streamed movies. These services are most typically maliciously coded, meaning full of malware, viruses and worse to open up on your personal computer or mobile device. Often free movies and TV are best rented for a very short period of time instead. This video can also be looked up in libraries for instant streaming too, provided it has been licensed for their patrons’ use and the library in question supplies a Free App to read, listen to or to watch their large collection of streamed videos, audiobooks and e-books, for example.

This response was way longer than it needed to be. If you’re outside of the US, it might be helpful to know the free streaming services available in your country. In the meantime, I recommend starting with Tubi, Pluto TV, Freevee, and Hoopla/Kanopy. These services are my go-to for a free, legal movie night that doesn’t break the bank in terms of ads or rentals. Tell me your country and I can provide more targeted advice if you’d like!
