So on the Webtoon or Tapas apps, don’t just search for the “romance” category. Use specific tags for more mature comics like “drama”, “slice of life”, “psychological”, “historical”. A lot of my favorite romance comics are tagged as “drama” or another similar tag. Also, try searching for terms like “contract marriage”, “divorce”, “office romance”, “second chance”. These are all tropes that are more typical of adult romances. I find that using specific keywords and doing a manual search instead of trusting the “top” list (which are all curated for younger readers and tend to feature more flash and less substance) will give you better results.

Also there are lots of chapters available in full as well as in part on these sites, so search for ‘‘free-to-read’’, ‘‘daily update’’ (to indicate that new episodes will be published on a daily basis and that there will be ads), and ‘‘first chapter free’’ etc.

Publishers and even some creators will also give away free episodes from time to time, which you can find out about by following them on social media or by keeping an eye on promotions for certain series. If you read the free chapters of something like BJ Alex or The Remarried Empress and like it, you can then support the creator later.
