My copy of 'At Home in Mitford' is falling apart from re-reads. I've never actually finished the series because I keep restarting from the beginning. For me, the order is just that first book, over and over. It's my literary security blanket. So my advice is worthless for completing the series, but high for maximizing comfort per page. Sometimes you don't need the whole story; you just need the feeling of home, and that first book has it in spades.
