Pride & Prejudice is in the public domain; however, giving credit where credit is due, it is the work of the absolutely brilliant Jane Austen. Anything you recognize is hers, the rest is mine. I'm just taking the opportunity to shake things up a bit. Or rather take the good fortune and coincidence scattered throughout the work and cranking it up a notch or three. Chapter 1

Instead he said, “What are you reading?” She looked up this time. “Why?” she asked. “You’ve read it before,” he said. “The spine is worn.” She glanced down at the book, thumb brushing the edge like she hadn’t noticed that herself. “Persuasion,” she said. “Jane Austen.” He nodded. “Yeah, the one where they almost lose each other.” “You’ve read it?” “My sister did,” he said. “She used to leave it on the kitchen table, I read the first half by accident over about six months of breakfasts.”

Asher says and Dani nods. “Oh, so do I. Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books. There was another famous sister, Anne. I read her book The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall. I liked it okay, but I much prefer Jane Eyre. A lot of what happened in that book is reflections of what actually happened to Charlotte in real life.” Dani tells him. He just looks down at her and she blushes. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fan girl over them. I know most people find it boring when I go on about stuff like this.” Dani does not want to bore him or make him think that she is some kind of nerd.

“This is ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen. It’s a love story that many women adore.” Jack took the book and examined the cover. “It looks interesting. What else would you recommend?” The sales assistant continued selecting books, giving a brief description for each one. “Oh, and we also have some romantic adventure books, like ‘Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson, which focuses more on adventure and pirates.” Jack listened carefully and selected several books with the assistant’s guidance. “I think she’ll like these,” he said, smiling. The sales assistant smiled back, growing a bit curious about the lucky woman who had managed to tie down a confirmed bachelor like Jack Colt.

I laughed after admiring the words written by Jane Austen. The words go as, “The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” I totally agreed with this. Though during my life on the island, I had no access to a good novel but my life itself there was a novel. Really. Isn’t it what it needed? A heroine in distress getting lost with the hero… Then… I don’t know. Zack? Could Zack be my hero? Absolutely not. Not when he could never love.

The bell rang. Jane was stuffing A Tale of Two Cities into her backpack when she heard Lucy's voice beside her. "You're reading Dickens?" Jane nodded warily. "Oh, I love Dickens. Have you read David Copperfield? Or Oliver Twist? Olive Twist is my favorite. I've read it twice. I cried both times. I can't believe someone else in our class is reading Dickens." To her dismay, Jane found herself walking down the hall to English with Lucy by her side, still talking, talking, talking.

Mary had acquired a little artificial importance, by becoming Mrs Charles Musgrove; but Anne, with an elegance of mind and sweetness of character, which must have placed her high with any people of real understanding, was nobody with either father or sister; her word had no weight, her convenience was always to give way--she was only Anne. My eyes of course skipping the one in front of me. "Jane Austen's most infamous novel, 'Pride and Prejudice' was first published in 1813. The novel was well received by the citizens of Austen's age as it has all the fine details of writing. There is suspense, drama, unrequited love, pride and prejudices. The title of the novel perfectly depicts the story. The novel as everyone knows, is on the life of Elizabeth Bennett and her family. She was courted both by Mr Collins and Mr Darcy who she initially turned down. She turned down Mr Collins

’ My feet carried me slowly, across the room, my fingertips brushing against the shelves before picking up a book. Persuasion by Jane Austen. Nostalgia hit me like a train. “It's still here…” I whispered, picking up another book. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I flipped through the pages, inhaling the faint smell of old papers. “It's all here, Andrew.” I croaked. “I know…” he whispered. “What do you two want?” A haggard voice asked, walking close to us. My eyes landed on a wrinkly figure, a cane to balance her as she walked closer.

Inside it is a box, I lift the lid off of the box to reveal a collection of books with titles I instantly recognise. "Jane Austen's books, all first editions" Rhode tells me softly as I pull my hand back away from the covers, just as I was about to touch them. I can't believe it, I can't believe they're just here in front of me, just sitting in my lap. "No way" I gasp quietly and look up at him in disbelief. These must have cost him a fortune, on top of being nearly impossible to track down. Tears are immediately springing to my eyes, a very regular occurrence for me these days.
