Honestly, the order matters less than just diving in. The books are so much fun. I picked up 'Icebreaker' at an airport because I liked the cover, and I was hooked from page one. Yeah, I was a little confused about some past history, but the book explained enough to keep me going. The action was so well-written that I didn't care.
After that, I went back and started from the beginning, and it was like getting a bunch of prequels. Knowing where Trapp ended up made seeing his earlier, slightly more optimistic self kind of poignant. There's no wrong door into this series. The most important thing is that you read them, not the order you do it in. Just enjoy the ride.

He knows the series is best experienced from the beginning.

Hmm, not sure I'm the best person to ask. I've only read the first two, and that was ages ago. I remember them being fun, but I fell off after that. Maybe someone else in the thread has a more complete grasp of the later books and where all the spin-offs fit? I'd be curious to know the answer myself, actually.

Okay, real talk: the only 'chronological order' that matters is the order Robert Ludlum wrote them in. 'The Bourne Identity' is first. 'The Bourne Supremacy' is next. 'The Bourne Ultimatum' is last. That's the complete Bourne saga as far as I'm concerned.
Everything after that is licensed fiction that, while sometimes fun, doesn't hold a candle to the paranoia and pace of the originals. If you must read them, they come chronologically after 'Ultimatum.' But your time is better spent re-reading Ludlum's trilogy and appreciating how different, and in many ways richer, the book version of Bourne is compared to the cinematic one.
