This is a light novel series. It is seriously wonderful. Unlike most other fantasy stories it is totally sincere. It does not wink at the reader. It does not parody the genre. It is simply presented as fantasy. The light novel is told from the same pragmatic, goal-oriented perspective as the protagonist. It can sometimes feel rather unemotional or even cold, but that is part of its ingenuity. The relationships in the light novel are almost always developed through transactions or by working towards a common goal. Emotions slowly develop from there, and it can be rather glacial. The anime had to speed that up, by adding lots of emotion and lots of fan service. But the light novel’s methodical and glacial development is what is most notable and defining of the story itself.

I found the fantasy economics in this show to be really compelling. Watching Michio figure out the various ways to manipulate the market, purchasing a house, and even managing his finances was really enjoyable. A second season could explore so many more areas of this world. New cultures, new trade goods, new ways for politics to play out. Yes, the harem is part of the story, but so is the world-building, which is extremely rich. I would love to see Michio deal with a merchant guild trying to wrestle control of the various dungeons and their treasures from him. This would be a really smart show and could deal out some real tension and even some strategy to the various story arcs. Season two has the potential to be much better than a lot of people expect.

These writers rank their stories based on average user rating and average page count read by viewers. ' MILF HUNTER' is most likely a mid-ranked novel that didn’t get much attention. A literary B-movie. Written by an author trying to cash in on a trend or simply having fun writing this story. Locating the author would require accessing Japanese online forums and understanding the culture surrounding these websites where novelists post their work. A culture largely inaccessible to the English speaking fan. Thus we’re left with this translated title and a vague sense of its origins.

It's also worth noting the economic model of such a story. It's clearly designed to be as engaging and addictive as possible, in order to encourage microtransactions on a freemium app. As such, I would not be surprised if this story was available on platforms such as Webnovel or MoboReader, where it could be read by people who are able to pay for addictive, power-fantasy, day-by-day, installment-by-install content. Sure. Free to write. Light novel? That’s got a business case behind it. So no, I’d count on my hands how many such light novels actually exist, and assuming they keep making more would be silly. The web is where this particular brand of fantasy lives rent-free.
