It's a contemporary fiction novel, not a serialized web novel. Those often have confusing orders. This is traditional publishing. The book is the product. The short story is a marketing bonus. Read the book.

I borrowed the ebook from my library and it included the Christmas novella at the end. So the 'order' was built in: novel, then novella. It worked perfectly. It felt like a cute little coda. If your copy has that, just go with the flow. If not, you're not missing anything crucial.

I read the Christmas novella first by accident because it was in a holiday bundle. It was fine, but it didn't have the same punch as the main novel. The novel has a proper plot, stakes, and growth. The novella is a vignette. I'd recommend saving the novella for after, like a little holiday-themed epilogue, even though it's set earlier.

The ending felt a bit rushed to me, but the journey was fun. The reading order is linear, so you experience the buildup and the quick resolution. I wish the last few chapters had more breathing room. Still, it's a satisfying story overall. Just be prepared for a somewhat abrupt wrap-up. The order is correct; the pacing just shifts near the end.

If you're in a holiday mood, you could read the Christmas novella as a standalone festive treat. You don't need the context of the novel to understand it—it's a simple family story. Then, if you like the writing, you can move on to the novel later. But they function independently of each other.

I say order doesn't matter if the first book doesn't work for you. Maybe the series just isn't for you, or maybe you connect with a different character's story. Don't force yourself through a book you dislike due to order dogma.
