Honestly, I don’t know if Marvel is going to do anything with her since her storyline concluded with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I’ve been reading The Warrior Queen Returns instead, which follows the legendary monarch’s return to life in a modern kingdom that is collapsing around her. She has to reclaim her throne from would-be rulers who want to displace her because she’s an old relic from bygone days. It’s got a similar set of themes to the character we discussed: identity, duty, and dealing with a shifting world.

I’ve been replaying the scenes of Sharon Carter from the Marvel movies, trying to get a handle on where her character is going. She’s had such a rollercoaster of a journey in the MCU, from being so noble in Captain America: The Winter Soldier to her surprising heel turn in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Her scenes in the latest were so good, and I’ve been rewatching them over and over trying to figure out where they are going from here. That post-credit scene was Mind-Blown worthy in and of itself (I love that Marvel is continuing to leave so many threads dangling for future movies). With the Multiverse saga opening up so many new stories and scenarios, it would be amazing to see her reappear in some capacity – even as a variant of herself or a slightly redeemed antihero. Her connection to Steve’s story is an emotional one, and she’s always been so beautifully played by Emily VanCamp. I’m betting we haven’t seen the last of her yet.

What I find so fascinating about Sharon Carter is that her story has also been mirroring the MCU’s journey into a much grayer morality. When she turned villain in the movie, it wasn’t really clear cut. We understood that her betrayal came from feelings of abandonment post ‘Civil War’. This makes her a really interesting character for future stories, including the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. An encounter with Valentina would be great, or even with Sam’s Captain America. With Armor Wars and many other upcoming political thrillers, I’d also love to see her utilize her spy skills. As a villain or as an unpredictable wild card, I hope we see more of her.

I think Sharon will eventually return as part of the Thunderbolts film, either as an unlikely recruit or secret mastermind pulling the strings. The actress does well with the complex characters and dynamic that Sharon exudes, and it would be amazing to see how she interacts with characters like Yelena or even US Agent. As someone who has carried around so much guilt from her complicated past with Steve Rogers, it would be amazing to explore more of her story for actress Emily VanCamp to delve into and develop.

Possible. Probably not. Marvel has an overwhelmingly large slate of characters right now. It is uncertain which will receive focus and which won’t. The post-credits scene for the next Captain America film could include her, but there is also a strong chance she will never be seen again. It is up to the individual writer or producer to fight for her inclusion. But I have little hope that that will happen, as there are so many newer, flashier characters to chose from. The new toys in the box are so much more interesting.

I just rewatched her scenes. She delivers fine acting in all of her scenes. She has great presence in all of her scenes. Unfortunately, she’s been given terrible scripts for her scenes. With much better material, she’d likely get lots of love from fans, just as Nebula and Loki have gotten. Sharon Carter could be a fan favorite, and I hope that someone in the writers’ room believes in her enough to write her a great storyline.
