I went back to watch “Love Through the Mist” recently and was again blown away by the cast of this wonderful drama. Lead actor Huang Xiaoming has so much depth in his acting, often expressing a whole backstory through silence. His co-star Song Yi has a sweetness and quiet strength to her character that is endearing. Yu Hewei’s portrayal of a comically mean character is further enhanced by his ability to make even the most trivial of scenes interesting. The supporting cast members, including Li Naiwen, add depth and complexity to their respective characters as well. Overall, it’s not just the leads that make “Love Through the Mist” so wonderful, but the whole ensemble of actors. I highly recommend this only for their amazing acting!

Love Through the Mist has lodged itself firmly in my head. The two leads of the drama are played by Huang Xiaoming and Song Yi, and they have fantastic on screen chemistry. The way that Huang Xiaoming’s character is complex and vulnerable whilst appearing tough on the surface is amazing to watch. Song Yi is strong yet soft and gentle at the same time which I find that she portrays the character very well. Yu Hewei also appears in the drama as the charming and mysterious younger brother to Huang Xiaoming’s character. The rest of the cast have also been selected superbly as there is fantastic synergy between all of the actors. Even the younger members of the cast, such as Zhang Lingxin, perform superbly in the drama. The way that the entire cast have been selected is a masterclass.

I found a drama 'Love Through the Mist' recently. The main actors in this drama are Huang Xiaoming and Song Yi. Their chemistry is intense. The male lead, Huang Xiaoming, played this mysterious character, whereas the female lead Song Yi played herself so naturally. Yu Hewei is another supporting actor who is excellent in the drama. His way of interacting with other actors is so compelling that it brings more realism to the story of the main characters. I watched this drama last winter. I was so into it that I even finished watching all the episodes while sipping on hot tea and all wrapped up in my blanket.

And the second main love affair between Zhang Lingxin and Li Naiwen is super too! Zhang is all energetic and Song Yi is all calm so their love affairs contrast each other alot while Li Naiwen brings all this quiet strength into his scenes. The whole ensemble does a great job. They are all really great and even some of the supporting cast add to the story too. The acting in this is so great that even that is worth watching!

For quite a while, it just kept on having the same situations over and over again with misunderstandings being cleared up one by one. However, I did find the acting to be very good throughout the drama. Even in scenes where the characters of Zhang Ruonan and Jing Chao made some very frustrating choices, I felt that they had been cast very well. Their characters seemed so very human and so very real, trapped as they were in a melodramatic story. The final section of the drama, where all of the characters’ secrets were finally revealed and the consequences that they had brought about on themselves were faced, was all acted extremely well. Zhang Ruonan and Jing Chao had some very powerful and emotional moments, and there were also some moments of relief and happiness. All in all, their performances made a pretty standard drama into something really special.

It does not attempt to subvert or revolutionize the genre in any way, and instead strives to perfect the existing formula. The casting is huge part of it. Zhang Ruonan is perfect kind and compassionate female lead who never seems bland or passive. Jing Chao is the image of majestic and tormented male lead who never seems cruel or unreadable. I recently binge watched this show and I have to say that it is really good. The female lead is played by Zhang Ruonan and the male lead is played by Jing Chao. I know that most adaptations of web novels are not well received by the original fans but I have to say that this show has received quite a lot of love from the fans of the original book. Perhaps it is because Zhang Ruonan played the female lead Ling really well. She portrayed Ling's gentle strength and her hidden vulnerabilities really well, especially in the later episodes. Jing Chao on the other hand played the male lead Mo Qing really well too. He has this quiet imposing presence that is so fitting for an ancient powerful love interest. The way the relationship between Ling and Mo Qing evolves from master and student to lovers to enemies was played really well by both actors. The production value of the show is also really high with the elaborate sets and costumes. The only thing I feel that lets the show down is the pacing in the middle of the show and some of the subplots that are not really necessary. But overall the show is really good and I would definitely recommend it to people who are looking for a visually stunning, emotionally charged love story with a bit of fantasy to it.

My only knowledge of this drama is thanks to my sister. The two leads are Zhang Ruonan and Jing Chao, and apparently they look really good together in promo shots. The drama is about fated lovers who get torn apart by heaven and then fight to get back together, which is pretty standard. But from what my sister says, it’s done really well. She praised the costume changes on Zhang Ruonan as well as Jing Chao’s fight scenes, saying that although they were few, they were really impactful. The dramatic plot twist in the later half of the drama made her cry, and that was all thanks to the two leads’ portrayal of their desperate characters. To an outsider, it seems like just another fantasy romance drama from China. But I guess it’s nice because the two leads really committed to the project, even doing a lot of their own stunt work for some of the more sensitive scenes. That’s always impressive.

I found the leads sort of OK, but then again that wasn’t why I was watching in the first place. Half the fun of costume dramas like this are the supporting characters and the numerous familiar faces from C-dramas. There’s the stern sect leader, the snide second male lead, the jealous rival – all played by solid character actors who frequently appear in similar productions. As for the leads, Zhang Ruonan does a fine job of connoting both youth and trauma, and Jing Chao is good-looking and looked worried for 90% of the run-time, which is pretty much what you’d expect from him. They’re by no means going to win any awards for subtlety, but they’re perfectly pitched for this sort of drama. Fans of sweeping, dreamy costume dramas with lots of romance, lots of fantasy, lots of fate and lots of sacrifice will likely find plenty to enjoy here. Just don’t expect too much depth to the leads’ relationship, because they spend most of their time having beautifully-shot-outdoors talks, interspersed with magical set pieces and time-travel-based flashbacks – and lots of long, misty stares at each other.

That necessarily puts more pressure on the actors to make the newly introduced emotional beats work. Jing Chao somehow managed to make the somewhat contrived plot twist work by bringing centuries of weariness and regret into his portrayal of the titular character. At times the dialogue is rather simple, but Ruonan brings depth to his Lead role as a naive and romantic spirit, later growing up into a more determined and proactive person. It’s a good example of how a talented actor can make up for some of the adaptation’s deficiencies and really make the more surreal parts of the story work.

The show sticks to a very safe formula for a modern, western-influenced fairy tale. It has all the universal markers of true love winning against all odds, in this case, against the universe. It is comfortable because it is so predictable and relies on tried and true conventions of the genre, but mostly it is comfortable because of the two leads’ warm and sincere portrayal of their characters. Both Zhang Ruonan and Jing Chao play very likable people who you cannot help but root for in order to see them succeed in the end. Their genuine commitment to the emotional journey of the characters they play makes for a safe, satisfying experience. We all could use more of that in our modern, stressful world. Guaranteed catharsis every time from two very charming guys who really get into their roles.
