I'm just imagining a newbie asking this and getting ten different answers. The truth is, it depends on your definitions. If you're loose, you get 4-5 stories. If you're strict, you get 2. The fun is in the debate. For a general audience, I'd say the big three are 'It', 'The Stand', and 'The Shining'. Everyone will know what you're talking about.
I have a theory that stories with a strong, singular villain are more likely to get multiple adaptations. Pennywise, Randall Flagg, Jack Torrance (though he's more a victim), the vampire Barlow. They're iconic monsters that actors want to play and directors want to reinterpret. King creates monsters that are flexible enough for different artistic visions.
I wonder if 'Needful Things' had a miniseries? It was a movie with Max von Sydow. No miniseries, I think. 'The Tommyknockers' was a miniseries, full stop. This exercise makes you realize how many King adaptations are TV movies or miniseries from the 80s and 90s. That was the golden age of the King TV event.

"You think you can just leave without a trace after what happened that night?" His hands pinned her arms above her head, his piercing blue eyes boring into hers.
"W-what do you mean?" she stuttered, his scent reminding her of that night—the night that had changed her life completely.
"What do I mean? Are you seriously asking me that, woman? If your brain can't recall how we burned together on that bed, how about I remind you right here?" His face was dangerously close as he growled into her ear.
Her eyes widened. He meant it. Every single word. He was the king of the entertainment world, after all.
"Let me go," she demanded stubbornly, her voice barely audible. He let out a low, dark chuckle that sent a chill down her spine.
"Let you go? Oh, I'll let you go, Tatiana. But not until you understand the consequences of crossing paths with me."

In the world of the entertainment industry, we see constant change and creativity. Trends come and go, as do collaborations between artists and producers. This world can make anyone wish to be a part of it—it is said to be inspiring and enjoyable...
Meanwhile, that's only on the surface. The same world is filled with deceit, betrayal, fake love, ruthless competition, toxic fans who could ruin you, suicide, and dissatisfaction... This world is mostly dominated by men.
How can a woman, hurt by this world, face it—especially when she had a night and her life tangled with the king of them all?
You think I care about titles?” he asked, stepping even closer until I could feel the heat radiating from him. “Do you think that matters to me?”
“It should,” I said, my voice breaking slightly. “It matters to me.”
He tilted his head slightly, studying me. "Why? Why does it matter so much to you?"
“Because,” I said quickly, searching for the right words. “Because people like me... we don’t belong with people like you. You’re... you’re powerful, and I’m—”
“Beautiful,” he cut me off, his voice firm.
I froze, my words dying on my lips. “What?” I whispered.
“You’re beautiful, Sophia,” he said again, his tone softer this time. “And I’m tired of pretending I don’t notice it. You think being a maid defines you, but it doesn’t. Not to me.”

Stephen King's work has been a goldmine for Hollywood, and honestly, it's hard to keep track of all the adaptations! One of the most iconic is 'The Shining,' directed by Stanley Kubrick. The film deviates from the book in some ways, but Jack Nicholson's performance is unforgettable. Then there's 'It,' which terrified a whole new generation with Pennywise the clown. The two-part movie did justice to the sprawling novel, though purists might argue about the changes. 'Carrie' was another early hit, with Sissy Spacek delivering a haunting portrayal of the bullied telekinetic girl. 'Misery' is a personal favorite—Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes is pure nightmare fuel, and it sticks close to the book's claustrophobic tension.
More recent adaptations include 'Doctor Sleep,' a sequel to 'The Shining,' which tried to bridge the gap between King's vision and Kubrick's film. 'Pet Sematary' got a remake, though it didn't quite capture the dread of the original. 'The Green Mile' is a standout, thanks to Tom Hanks' performance and the emotional weight of the story. And let's not forget 'Stand by Me,' based on 'The Body,' which is more nostalgic than horrifying but utterly brilliant. There are dozens more, from 'Cujo' to 'The Dark Tower,' but these are the ones that really left a mark on me.
