Is 'Swordmaster'S Youngest Son' A Completed Novel?

I was really excited to see how Jin would pay off the economic subplot that had spanned nearly the entirety of the book. In the end, all of his struggling to build his own economic network of influence and trade in the early portions of the book really paid off. Rather than resorting to simple martial force to quash the influence of other branches of his family, he instead uses economic leverage against them. The culmination of the story is really great for the subplot in that his merchant guild becomes the de facto backbone of new Runcandel economy – all directed at squashing old, exploitative economic systems of old Runcandel. I have to admit, that subplot felt like it meandered somewhat in the mid-section of the book, but the way he brought it all home in the end was fantastic. His was not a simple ‘I won the right to rule’ kind of victory. Instead, his was a true multidimensional victory, for he not only won the right to rule, but also fashioned for himself the practical means by which he shall sustain himself in rule. That was really nice attention to detail in building out the world of the story.

On the fanforum, this question pops up weekly or so, and depending on which arc people are currently in, they all agree that the Northern Warden is the strongest, or that it’s the exiled Blood Emperor, or even currently that the enigmatic ‘Last Scholar of the Sunken Tower’ is the strongest. The wiki even has a constantly edited page for this topic with elaborate arguments and citations to back up every claim. My two copper about this is that since the power system is intentionally very soft, there’s no way that the author is going to be able to give a definitive answer to this question without it ruining the rest of the series for everyone. Note that characters achieve major breakthroughs in terms of plot progress through gaining new insights into who they are or through having some sort of strong emotional moment. So, despite there being lots of grind content to level up characters, a single scene can suddenly find a character leveled up hugely. Hence it’s not really fun to read the v.s. scenes for the stronger characters, but it’s fun to discuss with others whether a particular character is currently stronger than another, and the answers could well change from scene to scene. The only character of legend who is really spoken of in terms of being ‘stronger’ than the rest is the ancestor of the founding of the school, but he’s a sort of historical figure, rather than a character in the story as it’s being told. The strongest character is currently whoever the plot needs to be a threat in that scene.

We had acknowledged that the author was dealing with health issues several months ago, and thus a slowdown in the comic was understandable. Now it's been awhile, and getting updates to the story or the ending is starting to feel a bit very inappropriate, given the author's current situation. No, the comic is not complete, and it will be updated when the author can. In the meantime, there are a ton of chapters available to read, or you could always go back and re-read some of your favorites.

My brief summary of the economic world-building in order to set up the rest of the post: this is a very economic-centered, mercenary-focused novel. That means that the first major moves that the mercenary in the story makes are to secure trade routes and then toManipulate commodity prices. I wrote about how this works in medieval terms here, but the basic gist is that the mercenary in this novel is incredibly smart about using his martial skills to then make lots of money. Which is just really impressive. Right now the English translation of this is still a work in progress, but very active, and so I can report on the comments on the official translation platform for this. (Once it is “done” the comments will, in a sense, fossilize). It’s a really weird, quirky little niche appeal that will only work for people who are into certain kinds of stories, but if it does work for you, you will be completely, rabidly obsessed. I know I am. Right now, reading this is still kind of a live experience, in which I can read along with a crowd of other translators and commenters of the in-progress translation.

I’m waiting for an audio book version of this to be released in English. Apparently, there is a full Korean audio book version out now. No doubt the English publisher will commission a translation and a reading of this once the text version has been completed. I only read on my commute, so everything I read is in audio book form. I check Audible and the other major audio book platforms from time to time to see if this has been released yet. It hasn’t. A very fun story to be read well by a good narrator in audio book format, so fingers crossed that it will get a full English audio book version.

For me the biggest selling point of Completion is that it’s a completed work. So many great stories are left as ‘to-be-continued’ serials. Completion has a map and a destination, and it gets there. The full journey of Maxi from trembling girl to solid and self-assured woman is shown in full. Same with Riftan’s growth from a closed-off, possessive guy to supportive and loving partner. The world-saving plot is wrapped up neatly. What more could you want? It’s a complete, satisfying meal, not a never-ending tasting menu of promise but of disappointment.

There’s a time skip at the end, which shows the consequences of the protagonist’s decisions not only for them, but also for their group members and their rivals. You get to see who stayed in the industry and who left, and how all the relationships developed. So there’s a really deep sense of lived-in history, much deeper than the plot itself, and some characters get happy endings, while others get kind of realistic and complicated endings. The final image is of a group of people, and it’s a new group, but there’s a lot of old people in it too. It’s a sort of change and continuity, and it was really satisfying, because for the first time in the whole movie you get a glimpse of the future, of what’s going to happen to them outside of the spotlight.

This is so great! Everyone becomes a detective sharing tips and weird apps nobody’s ever heard of before. Even if we don’t find the “right” answer, we get to learn about tons of new platforms and methods of finding freelance work. Thanks for the question!

I read translation blogs via RSS. Many blogs that post on aggregators also have an RSS feed to their individual blog, which I can then add to my RSS reader (e.g. Feedly). In this way, new chapters of a long translation are delivered to me in a similar way to a podcast, without my having to visit the individual website of each translator. And if a translator moves from a Blogspot blog to a WordPress.com blog and then to his or her own domain name, all I have to do is update the URL for that feed in my reader. While RSS does not solve the source problem (i.e. why do translators stop updating a given blog?), it does make continued reading of a stable translator’s blog a serene activity, with no ads, no clicking, just text, a relic from an earlier internet that somehow works very well for this.

This greatly depends on which fan-translation one reads. Most of the older and unofficial fan-translations of Power Weather are worded very liberally and often exaggerate the abilities of the characters and upgrade them to sound almost unbeatable. However, the official and cleaned-up version of the story currently translates the high-tiered characters to be able to reshape a galaxy instead of to erase a multiverse. This creates two separate power-scaling communities with their own conclusions. I trust the official version.
