A Year Without Autumn

It has been seven years since I shadowed Eula Ross like a fawning puppy. Under my dedicated tutoring, she successfully became a top student. But after the SATs scores were released, she casually dropped a single line at a class reunion. “Why don’t you apply for a community college with me? I have to go be with Luke Stetson.” All these years, I have been at her beck and call while granting her every wish. To make her happy, I even humbled myself to the point of slapping myself in front of everyone. Everyone said I was her shadow that she could never shake off. After getting married, I followed my wife to the desert to help build up a remote research base. After months of severe drought, I applied for 17 ounces of water just to wash my hair. But as station chief, June Sheffield rejected me without hesitation. "The water supply has to go toward cultivating the samples first. You need to learn how to tough it out." Then the next moment, I came across a new post the intern had uploaded on social media. 'Wanted to try an outdoor bath, and Ms. Sheffield approved a whole ton of water without even blinking! This is a story containing three points of views; the protagonist, Alex, her unrequited love, Cole and the new student, Asher. Alex planned to go on with her unrequited love for Cole till she graduated high school but Asher figures out her secret and says he can help her get Cole. Alex accepted this offer without a second thought as to why he wanted to help her and they become close friends, partners-in-crime; She finally has Cole, living the life she's only dreamed about but why does she feel unsatisfied and it doesn't help matters that Asher confesses to her.
