Joining Excel was a successful career. Allen was also of the same mind. He thought joining it was the gateway to a stable career. He finally found his chance when the institute was on a hiring spree for its Project EVO. The World hoped for another breakthrough smilingly, not knowing they had become too good, without sufficient preparation. Yes, they had done so without knowledge.
View MoreA flat 36-inch screen stood in a room decorated with white tiles. And a man talking towards a screen with sweat on his face.
He advertised the shop's wares with so much intensity that a customer couldn't remain unaffected.
Again, and, again, and again, he tried his best to secure deals with potential customers. After some time, a 6 feet tall man entered the room, signaling that Allen's shift was over. The man named Cooper smiled and greeted Allen. Allen created the best smile he could muster with his low energy and left the room after greeting Cooper. Outside, he saw the ad playing something that caught his eye.
"Do you desire to contribute to the betterment of humanity? Come join us at Excel! As a side benefit, there's also good salary and bonuses. All people with knowledge are welcome!"
Allen looked at it longingly and then went to a library; it was time to do more brain work till the night.
The Sun's rays were yet to hide when he entered the Grand Library. He met his friends, the old books, and the faint lights. After hours at the library, he did some stretching to get rid of the stiffness from sitting too long.
The whole environment made a person forget everything, but it was time to go.
Afterward, he navigated through valleys and reached a small house. Allen slipped an Identification card and entered a dimly lit room in which moonlight was seeping through the gaps in the curtains.
He passed by a bedroom in the house and saw his sister sleeping with her head on the table. He returned her to bed and continued upstairs to prepare for the D Day tomorrow. Obviously, for the grueling test!
If he passed or failed, he would not have to worry about their expenses.
If he failed the test, it would leave him with no better choice than to take financial support from the Government which he didn't want to.
Automation and machine efficiency developed in the last 100 years decreased the need for humans to work, while also increasing available resources.
Most people can get by themselves. Less than 1% of people might need financial support. Of which only 0.1% will accept it and others will do odd jobs.
If he took the deal, the goal he had in his mind would no longer be achievable. The goal is for them to be able to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle.
So despite some difficulties, he continued to do odd jobs for their living expenses.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
After waking up in the morning, Allen took a short bath.
Today was the day of the test for him. The institution normally only admits 50 to 100 people from more than tens of thousands of applicants. These last few years were an exception including a quota of over 500 people.
However, many applicants perhaps paced around even more anxiously because of this. The victory seemed so close, yet so far.
The distance from his house to downtown was not small but he had gotten accustomed to it after a few months.
He arrived at the examination site. The test site was also owned by the institution.
Allen was not very surprised to see that a large number of applicants had already arrived. They might have been nervous or worried about the test. There were only a small portion of the total applicants in this area.
Soon the test began as the five examiners arrived. The head examiner had a strict businessman face. Just like his face said, he conducted the test fairly and things got done smoothly.
It was time for the result announcement soon.
The monkey stared at the lion. It said “What do you mean? You want to drop out?”The lion said “Yes. The taller guy is like a professional hunter. We have come so close to him, but he hasn’t responded in any way till now. I suspect some trap.”“You are right in saying that there is a trap. But I am not settling down without giving them troubles now and then.”
Allen asked Jack the new video guy to come and meet him somewhere close by. Sitting in a café, Allen saw many people entering and exiting. Among them was a man who was on the phone as he entered. Allen signaled to him and the guy came to him.Allen said “Jack I assume? It’s a pleasure to meet you. I hope you had a nice journey till here”The other man said “Yes. I am Jack, Sir Allen. And yes, glad to meet you and hope you are doing well also.”Allen said, “Then I assume that we can talk about the project a little bit?”Jack said, “Yes, I understand some aspects but some questions are still there.”Allen said “Can you kindly repeat the things that I said about the project. It will help me know where we stand right now.”“The project has a specific audience that is students of science and the project is supposed to be a call to acti
Allen turned around a corner and started to walk fast. There were people following him now and then. The last time he saw them, they were wearing formal black suits. The times they followed him most were when there were a lot fewer people around the area. That’s why Allen tried to keep himself in crowded areas throughout the day and for the night, he had taken a room in a crowded place also.As he came near the entrance, Allen took off the extra overcoat, the glasses, the hat, and the mustache and threw them away in a bag. He entered the building and went to his room hiding among a few other people. Looking from the window of his room, he saw a man wearing a black formal suit coming inside. Allen went downstairs and sat on a seat somewhere from where he could observe the man. The suited man asked the man at the counter something, the man at the counter replied in negative to whatever the man in a suit asked. And then the man went away without look
He needed to launch “Video Streaming”, the domain’s version of Nettflix here to accomplish his task. The content was already quite a lot of content in the market. He hence had to provide them with new and better stuff, and he took this challenge. He looked at the prices of some directors, and they were way above his reach. Some other less known directors found his ideas not in the trend and hence they would not sponsor the project. What he did was he searched for the closet film production university that was accepting admissions and made his camp there. Allen waited for the exam to finish and, by looking at the faces of the people who came outside, he already guessed who was thinking what. He picked some of them, taking advantage of the fact that they were in an excited emotional state. He talked to multiple of them and got their numbers. After that wa
Casually skimming through one, it took him a few hours to get to its last. Looking at the other two, he took a quick break by noting down some terms in his electric notepad. After a quick summary, he then read the second book, reading to its half, he left it there. He got a general idea for the day. This country had quite bad ties with another neighboring country of its. Both of the countries were split from a single country a few centuries ago, and they had feuds in between them based on their respective ideologies. The other country had, over the centuries, progressed more than them, because of their flexible ideology. The people of this country, although disliked it, could not or did not make a strong attempt enough to break this trend. Most of the things here were copies of the other country. &
After what seemed like a few mins, he opened his eyes as a student, as a university student this time.Allen now thankfully had enough clues to figure out what game this domain wanted him to play. It was making him go from one education age to another, primary to secondary, making him face the wall of tests again and again. Then, it gave him some buffer time by sending him to a free time of the high school year. He admitted. He was getting side-tracked as time went by because the vision and goal that he wanted to accomplish had become blurry after several months. The drive behind everything that he did before was almost gone. The major problem was that the memories of his were not fully available and hence he could not get himself to do a lot, as he was losing his steam, his motivation. Now, with the clearest idea since the time he came into the domain, his purpose became a lot clear again. It boosted his drive. He wrote down the things that he n
