كمان في الكتب ثمة تفرعات وشخصيات ثانوية بتاخد وقت طويل للتطور — ودي الأشياء اللي المسلسل أما دمجها أو قلل من حضورها لأجل الإيقاع. ولطفًا لا تنسَ إن بعض الأحداث اتعدلت ترتيبها أو اتنشلت من كتب لاحقة أو اتوسعت فيها لخلق مفاجآت درامية على الشاشة؛ وفي نفس الوقت المشاهد القوية بين كلير وجيمي موجودة تقريبًا لكن بتطغى عليها لغة الصورة أكثر من السرد الداخلي. بالمحصّلة، بحب الطريقتين: الرواية تمنحك غوصًا أعمق، والمسلسل يعطيك نبضًا مرئيًا ومشاعر فورية — وبالنهاية برفض أقول أيهما أفضل نهائيًا، كل واحد له سحره بالنسبة لي.

اگر بخواهم کمی خوش‌بین باشم، می‌گویم شانس ادامه وجود دارد: طرفدارها کم نگذاشتند، دنیاهای تاریخی-عاشقانه همیشه بازار دارند و بازیگران اصلی رابطهٔ نزدیکی با پروژه دارند، بنابراین منطقی است شبکه تلاش کند تا داستان را تا جایی که می‌شود کامل کند یا حداقل به یک جمع‌بندی قابل قبول برسد. از طرف دیگر، تولید فصل‌های بعدی هزینه‌بر است و ممکن است تیم خلاق بخواهد داستان را به شکل متمرکزتر و با بودجهٔ مناسب‌تر ببندد، یا حتی به سراغ اسپین‌آف‌هایی برود که تمرکز را تغییر دهند. در هر حالت، من همچنان آرزو دارم که قصهٔ کلرمونت و کلیانسی به شکلی شایسته بسته شود؛ امیدوارم سازندگان هم این حس را در نظر بگیرند و یک پایان دل‌نشین برای ما طرفدارها بسازند.

مثلاً، قد ترى في المسلسل مشاهد مُصوّرة بجرأة أو تُعطى أولوية لمشاعر معينة على حساب سرد داخلي موجود في الرواية. هذا ليس تغييراً جذرياً للنهاية بقدر ما هو تعديل لمسار المشاهد حتى تصل إلى نفس النقاط المحورية، لكن أحياناً طريقة الوصول تختلف: أحداث قد تُرحّل من فصلٍ لآخر، أو يتم دمج خطين سرديين في شخصية واحدة لتسهيل المتابعة. كقارئ ومشاهد، في بعض الأحيان أحب تلك التحويرات لأنها تمنحني رؤية جديدة، وفي أحيانٍ أخرى أتمنى أن يحافظ المخرجون على تفصيل صغير أعشقه من النص الأصلي.

لو سؤالك عن نهاية محددة: حتى الآن، عندما يخلص المسلسل لقوس درامي مُعَيَّن، النهاية غالباً مماثلة روحياً للرواية لكنها مختلفة شكلاً وتتابعاً. إن رغبت نهايات مطابقة حرفياً فالروايات هي المكان الأفضل، أما إذا كنت تقبل بالتحوير الدرامي فالمسلسل يقدم تجربة بصرية ممتعة ومكملة لخبرتي مع الكتب، وهذا ما يجعلني أعود وأقارن بابتسامة.
