This Week 6 Hard mode is for unlocking Girlfriend. I approached this level as a puzzle of different rhythm quirks for each song. Stress, for me, was one of the hardest songs because of the alternating double arrows. Going back and forth in Practice mode for certain sections until I got them was key to mastering them. I even found a few of these sections through the community and they include focusing on the shadows of the arrows instead of the notes themselves.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of grinding, waiting and itching to unlock Girlfriend (and her commentary between songs) – and believe me, her unlocking is one of the greatest feeling of all-time as it feels like you’ve grown as a player too.

Friday Night Funkin'‘ Girlfriend. Getting her was all about persistence. My first play through the weeks for Girlfriend was pretty easy. Hard mode though, especially for Week 6 songs “Thorns” and “Pico” required a good amount of timing for the arrows. I ended up playing without the background animations to focus on the rhythm of the song. There are a lot of mods that allow you to modify the difficulty to make games easier but I wanted to complete Girlfriend without using any of them.

One thing no one mentions is how incredible of an impact the soundtrack has on your playthrough of the game. The music of every song is designed to sync up with the player’s input in a perfect way. The beats of the songs literally guide the player on where to press and when. After three long nights, I finally got it, and everything clicked into place. It was like the game was saying “Alright, you’re good enough for Girlfriend now”.

Girlfriend, the special unlock for Friday Night Funkin’, is another one of those special moments of the game. As it is with most of these “special unlocks,” at first glance it seems that all you have to do is play through the game and hit all the notes on the songs. However, as you play through the weeks, you start to notice more and more secrets and things that you can unlock. As for Girlfriend, to unlock her, you must complete Week 6 on Hard mode. Some of the songs in this week, such as ‘High’ and ‘Milf’, can be very challenging with their fast arrow sequences. After hours of practicing, I finally got to see her unlock and it felt so good.

It also unlocks her animations and dialogue changes for the rest of the weeks, adding a lot of personality to the game. If you are having trouble with this unlock, I recommend slowing down the game’s speed in the settings to really be able to practice and learn the hard parts of ‘High’ and ‘Milf’ in order to unlock Girlfriend.

A lot of the humor in this anime is based in the voice acting. Saki Saki’s voice acting in particular is hilarious. Ayane Sakura perfectly captures the character’s switch from completely calm to completely apocalyptic rage in the span of a millisecond. I would definitely watch a third season of this anime for more of her voice acting, and the rest of the cast is just as funny. It is clear that they are having a good time in the recording booth.

I'm hesitant to say that there's nothing hidden in the game. There's a rumor that if you completed Arcade Mode on the hardest difficulty using all the base characters, you'd unlock a special palette swap or even a hidden fighter. The game's files have been datamined and there are no unused character models beyond the DLC characters.
