I lifted Novel in a bridal carry, her weight familiar yet terrifyingly limp in my arms. Outside the tent, my men were already a blur of motion, packing crates and tightening cinches. I caught several of them stealing glances at Novel, their eyes wide with unspoken questions about her unconscious state. The carriage was a jagged skeleton of wood and velvet, shredded during the attack. With no other choice, I decided she would ride with me.
