Favor V April
“You think you can win over a man like me?” Mr. Domenico Lombardi’s deep, stern voice made me nervous, but I refused to back down. I knew what I wanted.
“Yes.” I nodded firmly, though I was already questioning my own judgment. I’d never had a boyfriend, and now I was trying to win over a man old enough to be my father. I guess I really was Kate’s daughter. I couldn’t help laughing at my own foolishness.
He scoffed, and I nodded again, watching his silvery-gray eyes grow colder.
What was that about?
I brushed it off as his icy gaze swept over me. Domenico Lombardi had a way of making me feel as though I were being judged and dismissed at every turn.
“How old are you?”
“Eighteen.”
“How old is your father?”
“Thirty-eight,” I answered honestly.
“Well, I’m thirty-seven.” He stared at me, his expression growing even more intimidating. I nervously fidgeted with my nails, shifting my weight to ease the tension. “I’m practically old enough to be your father—or even your grandfather. How many boyfriends have you had?”
“None.”
He chuckled at my answer.
“You see, I’ve lived longer than you can imagine and met more women than I can count over the centuries. To me, you’re still a young girl with a lot to learn. Now, go on your way.”
“You’re just trying to scare me!” I retorted.
“Am I?”
“Yes,” I replied confidently.
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by my determination. “You certainly have a lot of confidence for someone who barely knows me.”
