Now that I am in familiar territory, I use the time to work on some tricks. I have been practicing what I like to call a double J spin, or in other words a 360 degree spin. Just after exiting the last turn, I engage my handbrake, which locks my back wheels, I reverse 180 then gas it. Once I pull out of the original J turn, I then repeat the maneuvers once again, so that I am facing the original way I was heading.

It's shooting out smokes and the gears on the side are spinning at incredible speed. "Yes, yes, yes," I say, looking at the gears as they soon start to move faster. "Wait. No. No! Too fast! Too fast!" Removing the wires, the gears are still turning too fast, and to make matters worst, they seem to be shaking. Also, it looks like they are getting loose. I try to stop the gears but they're moving too fast. Without a second thought, I drop to the floor just as the gears come off and fly around my room.

Not the three green lights that meant gear deployed and locked. Just… stopped. Mid-sequence. One light green, two still cycling, the system sitting in a state it was never designed to sit in. Daan looked at me. I looked at the panel. Then I initiated the manual override sequence. The system didn't respond.

"Looks like a deployment, not a practice kit." "It feels like armor," I said, stepping up to him, the soles of my shoes tracking silently on the textured rubber flooring. "The composition is tighter than the baseline gear. It forces you to maintain the forward lean even when you're resting." "That's because they don't design these for comfort," Kane grunted, his large hand coming up to rest briefly on my shoulder, the heat of his palm penetrating the thick material. "They design them to shave micro-seconds off the split. Out here, if you're comfortable, you're falling behind the pacing line."
