Nothing felt like enough. “Silas,” I whispered, pressing my hands to his chest. His breathing was shallow, his body too still. The scent of silver mixed with blood was suffocating. The hunters were getting closer. I could see their shadows through the gaps in the trees, hear their low voices cutting through the air. I squeezed my eyes shut, muttering a prayer to anyone who might be listening. A shift in the wind made my breath catch. A familiar voice rang through the air. “Let’s wrap this up! We’ve got enough!”

They’d joined the Seafall hunters when their search for a Knucker, a shape shifting water spirit, had brought them to our coastal town. They’d been disappointed to discover that none of us had seen the Knucker they were looking for; until Archer, a tall, willowy woman with skin so white that she looked pearlescent, had pointed out that, as Knuckers were shape shifters, any one of us could have encountered it and let it pass us by.

“Hunters.” Then everything explodes into chaos.

Claire interrupted, “What exactly is a Hunter?” He took a deep breath, steadying himself. “A hunter is a type of human who was or is a Mythical bounty hunter. They have enhanced skills; fighting abilities, enhanced senses. I think one or both of your parents were Hunters. Especially after seeing you in action. Haven’t you ever wondered how you could fight and keep up with the wolves and vampires in your coven and pack? Love, you ARE A HUNTER.”

I only continue my exploration when everything is in order with my bladder. I push the door ajar with the tip of my boot, cursing the aged wood for opening with a growing squeak. Hunter for what he is doing and raises the instrument in his hands, in a reflection of fright. It is a large and heavy sledgehammer, whose black handle is surrounded by the strong fingers of both his hands.

When I get back to the pack, Ryder and Eric are standing in front of the burnt down pack house and are in heated discussion over something I can’t hear. I walk up to them, and they both raise their eyes to stare at me when I say angrily from between gritted teeth, “I have found the murderer and he is a hunter. A man in the woods, just outside of town. The thing is that he has silver and is no normal hunter, he is a hunter of our kind. He is the one who killed the pups because he has their dead bodies just waiting to be skinned and hung. There little feet rest around his neck on a necklace made of them.”

He chattered on restlessly “okay calm down honey, we’ll head to the temple after breakfast, so go take a wash and I’ll be done in a few moments.” Genevieve said as she straightened his hair, she then stared at his eyes, instead of it being green like hers or that of any other Hunter they were blue but the shade was so faint it almost looked like white, it looked extremely beautiful and captivating but it was for this very reason several people wanted him dead, he was different from everyone else and they were scared of it.
