Someone Better
To break the awkward quiet, I decided to bring up the opening.
"Has the opening been finalized yet?" I asked, trying to start a conversation.
"That's what I was told. Are you not coming?" I ask. He's my assistant, but Sharon is with me, so his presence isn't necessary.
"Maybe, but as your assistant, I can join you. My personal matters can wait." I inadvertently reveal something personal. She smiled, but it wasn’t a bad smile—just a different one. She's an open-minded woman, after all. Enrico wouldn't be so taken with her if she weren't also wise and understanding.
