Daniel was only late by two minutes and yet Master Hoffman was so calculative. Daniel sat opposite him and calmly said, “Master Hoffman’s concept of time is really strong.” Master Hoffman snorted coldly. “Young man, don’t think that I’m merely an old antique. As a businessman, not only do you have to be trustworthy, but you also have to pay attention to the concept of time. Two minutes can make you lose a business deal. If it’s on the operating table, then it might be a life.”

Time has a sense of humor. Mercy steps in and wipes the word away with the side of her hand. “Writing won’t work,” she says gently. “Not yet.” Thomas swears under his breath. “You said this wasn’t—” “I said I didn’t know,” Mercy corrects. “Time likes efficiency.
