Footprints from hundreds of people span the width of the walkway, telling a story of eager tourists to take photos of the snow or locals taking their time since they’ve walked this path countless times. The air is peaceful, relaxing my muscles and the anxiety gnawing at my sides. In a park of this size, surrounded by strangers and tourists from around the road, it’s easier to blend into the background. Not a single reporter has followed us throughout the day, nor have I been recognized by someone who supports Liam.

We arrived at a park. It wasn’t crowded, thankfully but there were just a few people walking, some kids playing, and a couple sitting on a bench feeding pigeons. Dorian opened the car door for me. I stepped out and looked around. The air in the park was nice. A little cold, but fresh and refreshing. I crossed my arms. “You okay?” he asked, standing beside me. I nodded. “Yeah. Just cold and maybe tired..” He chuckled again and clasped our hands together as he pulled me and we started walking slowly down the path. The trees around us moved gently with the wind. The grass was beautiful and worthy to look at.

“I know now.” They left the boat. The city shifted into a busier afternoon. They walked to a park, letting Ethan run across the grass. Emma sat on a bench, opened the book she had bought the night before. She read a page, then closed it again—the words today were more alive around her. On the gravel path, a woman walked briskly. Dark coat. This time, Emma saw her from the corner of her eye—and she was sure. The woman didn’t look directly; she passed like someone heading elsewhere. But her rhythm was too measured to be pure coincidence.

And last call, time to pack up and go. This time of the day was both of our favorites. A great book club, with great conversations, growth that is hard to anticipate, and to end the day a nice walk in the park. Sometimes followed with conversation, not too deep or too light, and the most important thing is being together. Words didn’t matter all that much, like our company. Our choice to start the walk was a nearby garden with different flowers, insects galore, and, if lucky, the occasional squirrel, bunny, or bat.

"Yeah. We could get some fresh air and maybe clear our heads a bit." I considered his offer for a moment before nodding. I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment, despite the whirlwind of attention that had enveloped us.

We walked in companionable silence for a while, letting the natural rhythm of the park surround us. I found myself stealing glances at her, at the free way she carried herself. For a moment, I envied her lightness, her ability to laugh and move on from whatever weighed her down.

She stayed in the finest hotels, dined at the best restaurants, and bought whatever bags she liked, one after another. By the time I returned from my five-day trip, Camilla had already started carrying herself like she was someone important, looking down on everyone, including me.
